Directors who don't direct!
Wed, 25 Feb 1998, 10:07 pmJUST A SHORT REQUESTWhy do some director's insist on cutting short the directing process? Answer: 1. Arrogance - their trying to rewrite how to Direct.2. Disorganisation.Someone please prove to me how wrong I am - that the majority of director's out there(professional and Community) do subscribe to massive amounts of research and pre-production work, that choosing a good play and cast is paramount. Tell me your views

> My point was that there are quite a few directors, working in both professional and in community theatre circles who have little idea of what is involved when it comes to puttng on a show. Having seen Cloudstreet in Fremantle on Saturday the 28th of February, I was very much delighted to see at long last a thoroughly enjoyable production, full of spontaneity, terrific acting and slick direction. It was a 4 hour show, which did not drag at all...and everyone in Perth who was ever interested in direction should have seen it...to see how a successful show(in all respects) looks. That is not say that there is only one way to direct...there isn't.My point concerning the choice of play and casting is that these are vital components in putting on a successful(both critically and financially)show...of course there is more to a successful show than just these two components but it is these two specifically that I have found particularly disappointing of late!!!!!!!!
