Online Discussion Groups for Theatre Teachers
Wed, 8 Mar 2006, 03:44 pmI am looking for a few online dicsussion groups for Theatre Arts Teachers. I have found a few but they are either pretty much dead or pay to register. So if you know any that are alive and kicking as well as free please let me know.

Try Drama Australia. That's the theatre education site/organisation. I know that at least the Victorian branch has a forum (rarely visited), but they may have some suggestions of who to contact, etc.

Hello Kerri the student teacher
I did not realise that DramaWest had a subscription but they may still be the best value if you end up using a paid site as their resources were comprehensive when I looked last (which was a few years it seems). If you subscribe to DramaWest http://www.dramawest.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1you are affiliated with Drama Australia.
Your solution may be to set up a forum through theatre australia if you want it to be free. In most cases when there is a need, someone has to come up with the solution themselves, as Grant has done with this website.

That was the origin of DramaWest site. Local actor and teacher Kim Flintoff set the DramaWest site up six or seven years ago. I gather Kim has since moved on to other things (a Masters degree and is it a PhD now?)
The new site allows most items of content to be categorised according to a range of items.
For example, you'll find that most things (forum topics, events, blogs...) can be categorised according to the sorts of people that may be interested in the content.
It's then possible to browse the website viewing just the content that fits that category.
I've just added the following categories and subcategories:
Teacher
-- Dance Teacher
-- Drama Teacher
-- Movement Teacher
-- Primary Teacher
-- Secondary Teacher
-- Voice Teacher
So you will be able to browse the new site for all content likely to be of interest to teachers generally - or for teachers in specific areas. Let me know if I need to add any!
Mind you, this all depends on my getting the new site up and people categorising their content meaningfully... but more on that later tonight. I have a young boy beckoning from the shower...
(Sheesh! what a thing to say on a theatre website!)
Cheers
Grant
