Diploma of Arts (acting)
Hi - I'm General Manager of the National Theatre & a NIDA grad. I've also been in the industry 25 years as production manager, stage manager, lighting designer, administrator, casting consultant etc etc. Just to show my prejudices.
The 3 year part-time acting course at the National was established in 1970 by Joan Harris AM, arising out of previous training dating back to the formation of the school in 1935. It was accredited in 2004 and is based on a philosophy of learning by doing, and using industry professionals in the training as much as possible. Recent directors have been Kim Durban, Babs McMillan and currently Ken Boucher. Some grads are Janet Andrewartha, Brett Tucker, Marissa Warrington, Jacqui Woodburne, Dino Marnika and Robert Morgan.
The School shares its 6 studios - including a small studio theatre - with the National Ballet School. Both are located beneath our 783 seat theatre in St Kilda.
