I know its only October, but what in your opinion have been the highlight shows for you this year so far and why?

Re: BEST SHOWS youve seen 2005?

My favourite show this year was 'The Lion King'.... Actually, I think that and about two or three other shows was all I saw this year. Of course, I had a monologue performed for the first time - that was pretty good (of course I'd say that!)...but nothing really sparked my interest.

In fact I'd have to say a movie (Strings) captured my imagination more than any show I've seen this year.

best community theatre I have seen is RENT - Rockdale Musical Society for the sheer strength of the full cast - all great singing all great acting, very strong emotion

good luck with the thread, these are a fickle bunch

Best show by far is 'Mr Methane'. Whacking good tunes a truly memorable event. Currently touring the country.

This has been a moot subject here so far it seems, but probably Chess. Personal choice.

Footloose performed by the Parkes Music and Drama Society. I've never been in anything like this ever before, and we've had 6 sold out shows, with only 3 to go.

We've had so many people from town coming to support the show it has been simply amazing.

Would most definately have to be Chamber Made's Phobia on earlier this year. amazing performance, a great time and a very original and interesting concept.

Malthouse's Page 8 is a close second, David Page was incredible....

Re: BEST SHOWS youve seen 2005?

I dunno if this counts either but I loved "My Friends Went Overseas And All They Brought Me Back Was This Lousy Cabaret Act" from Yellowglass Theatre Company.

It was very witty and the cast were great.

Re: BEST SHOWS youve seen 2005?

In no particular order...

1) Everything from yellow glass theatre inc. this year has been amazing. Looking forward to Rent in December... are tickets on sale yet?

2) Elegies, currently playing at WAAPA (2nd year MT students) is phenominal.

3) I went to Melbourne to see Bette Midler's "Kiss My Brass" show, and that was pretty damn spectacular!

4) The Black Eyed Peas concert also rocked! :)

Mr Methane counted... So I think Cirque de Soleil counts!

For me... thouroughly enjoyed Minefields and Miniskirts at Playhouse Theatre.

Great cast, and touching stories.

Re: BEST SHOWS youve seen 2005?

Umm saw "Wicked" in the states...awesome!
In Aus: a couple of great Bell Shakespeare productions but by far in Aus Caroline O'connor in "Bombshells" was outstanding.

Mine would have to be a toss up between Dealers' Choice at the Rechabites by Red Ryder Theatre Co. Or Little Shop Of Horrors at The Sun Room by Yellow Glass Theatre.

Re: BEST SHOWS youve seen 2005?

The best show of 2005 had to be Steven Berkoff's KVETCH performed by the WTC at The Bakery. Great acting with an hilarious script. It's a shame the venue was so out of the way.

Re: BEST SHOWS youve seen 2005?

Yes I did and he was amazing!!! Such a fabulous production, they condensed it to a 3 hander, with the other 2 actors playing multiple roles! It was at the Menier Chocolate Factory which is a small intimate theatre space near Tower Bridge, if anyone is ever over here they should check it out! They are about to open 'Sunday In The Park With George' here starring Anna Jane Casey - will definately be getting tickets for that one!!!!
