The comedy ‘What’s for Pudding’ by David Tristram is to be performed as part of the one-act season being run by Stirling Players in September.

The one act play runs for about 25 minutes and requires a cast of five people. Jack and Mary and their friends Ted and Maureen are married couples, ideally aged in their late thirties, though they could possibly be a bit older. They lead fairly ordinary lives, though each has emotions just under the surface that become exposed as the four friends indulge in an unplanned night of whiskey drinking and tensions build to a climax. The hapless Dennis, a neighbour who just pops over to buy a pair of trousers from MaryÂ’s catalogue, is an unwitting witness to the antics.

Jack is the sort of person who takes comfort in the quiet predicability of life. HeÂ’s careful with his money and likes everything in its right place. Mary, despite having to put up with Jack, still has a spark of life and a witty, spirited streak that refuses to go away. Ted, seemingly mild mannered and down to earth, has a hidden side to him. Maureen, somewhat drippy, is a partner to match with a tendency to take everything at face value. Dennis, who aspires to little, lives in his own world, which he pops out of from time to time to make contact with those around him.

Auditions will take place on 2 July for this play and two other one-act plays being performed in the same season. For details go to the audition listing for July (‘What’s on’ on this website), under the title ‘How Absurd’.
