Burning Question for Craig Williams

I assume everyone has seen the silly "Burning Questions" column in the West Australian. I admit I am an absolute trivia nerd, and so, against my better judgment, I have read this column pretty consistently over the past year.

Has anyone else noticed that every second question is answered by "Craig Williams". I ask: is this the very same Craig Williams who is a renowned Perth actor and regular poster to this site? If so, my next question is, don't you have something better to do with your time?

Although given that I'm writing this post, I'm probably not one to throw stones.

Hi TP

I usually DO have something better to do than to bother reading the actual ARTICLES in The West; and I wonder why other people don't have better things to do than watch the nightly news...however the people I am currently residing with get the paper delivered, and once they've finished with it I happen to be pretty partial to the cryptic crosswords which are on the same page. It wasn't such a big leap to start answering the trivia questions.

It doesn't actually take that much out of my day to send in answers, given that I usually send in five or so at a time (if I know them). So that's only once or twice a week. If I'm online here or downloading music files, I can send email concurrently...so it's hardly a big extra drain on my time.

My current strike rate is probably about 50% - for every answer I've sent in since I started in early October, around half have been published.

The way I see it, there's hardly any better use of my time than to be doing stuff that amuses me...and maybe entertains or informs others. That's why I'm here on this site too, and also why I work as an actor and as a musician, or my other casual work of facilitating outdoor activities and games.....probably a selfish motivation, but when your industry involves amusing others, it's probably an investment of your time to know how to successfully amuse yourself.

Given that you think it's such a silly waste of time, which of us do you think should be finding something better to do? After all...you're reading it, both here and in The West!

Cheers,
Craig

Trivial people should muse and thunder

Hi Craig,

I admit I am a closet trivia nerd myself and have oft been tempted to write in a couple of answers myself. I admire your couragein coming out so openly. Your example has helped me also come out, and I look forward to being published in the West myself very soon.

I certainly don't think this is a waste of time, or at least no more so than writing this post. I do often find some of the questions, and indeed some of the answers, given in the West a bit comical at times, but I don't mean to impune your trivia answering pursuit.

May all your your pursuits be trivial!

Yes, we're talking WAY back...20 years ago to summer 1985. I'd only done one school play prior to that. 'The Leopard' started me on the track I've pretty well stuck to since then....group devised work; physical theatre; the first of a massive history of animal characterisations; and hanging around the Subi Theatre Centre with a serious desire to keep acting. That role led to me being selected to tour to a festival in Japan that year, and everything else I've done has built from there.

Were you involved in the YTC, Nic? Are you the Nic that was in Cantan and then the tour of Sun Pictures?

Cheers
Craig

Re: Leopard man

Yes, I was in the YTC and in the very same production with yourself.

Let me recall, ah yes, I remember being with some girl called Natalie on the grass in the "wild cannibal tribe"and she had this cackle that just cracked us both up.

I was also one of the game show boys?

Thats pretty much what I remember.
