advertising/publicity
Wed, 13 Oct 2004, 08:17 amreading through some old posts i found that people were trying to find out ways of getting audiences in to the theatre... i dont know how to say this eloquently so i'll just say it...
until just under a year ago i had heard nothing of this website, before that i had heard NOTHING of any local theatre. true i am not much of a city person, it is a rare occasion that will bring me out of my burrow in joonda's but my point is this... i wasnt aware that there were so many productions and exciting things going on in perth! sure i went to see cabaret and by chance i saw Ristorante Immortale and then i left the country and heard of this website! i just cant wait to get back and explore the theatre i never knew existed...
so is it my fault for being an uneducated and uncultured buffoon or do we need more publicity for the arts? perhaps introducing more theatre in education would help to nuture the next generation of audiences...? i don't know what the answer is, but with so much talent and potential can we really afford not to find one...?

I also must admit to having been completely oblivious to the existence of community theatre in Perth until a girl I work with told me she was performing in a play. This gained my interest sufficiently to do a google search for "auditions - perth", which lo and behold found this site for me...
I, too, think it's a shame that there are probably a lot of people who would be perfectly willing audience members, but who never hear about anything...
I guess once again a lot of the problem boils down to the almighty dollar - the most far-reaching advertising methods also being the most expensive...
