Idol fans, maybe you can answer this question
Wed, 22 Sept 2004, 08:35 amHi idol fans
This is a quick question. I have just visited the official Australian Idol Website and was wondering don't they normally have a forum for fans, viewers to comment about their favourite contestants, judges, etc??
Could not find a forum or the posting comments section.
Can you see it or have they this time around closed off this part of the official site?

Re: Idol fans, maybe you can answer this question
Actually it is there...
Assuming the official site that you speak of is at http://au.australianidol.yahoo.com/ then the link that you should be clicking on is MESSAGEBOARDS on the left side.
And if you thought our REVIEWS section gets a bit too heated at times - you should check out the Australian Idol messageboards!

Re: GUYS DON'T REPLY THIS IS A SCAM
Hi guys
I think this is a scam ready to happen, just be careful.
Just recently it's been on the news that people are trying to offer fake money to people by getting people to reveal their bank accounts details.
Please be weary and if you don't believe me contact the authorities who strongly advise people to not reply to scams offering money for nothing.

Re: joy_kk06@yahoo.fr - THIS IS A SCAM, Craig your views?
RE: joy_kk06@yahoo.fr
Hi Craig
How can we remove this scam offering people money for nothing.
I'm sure you have seen this recently in the post, newspaper etc.
Do you know how to get in touch with the theatre Australia People to remove this article from this site which clearly does not belong.
I'm hoping that we will not have any readers sucked into this money making scam but I have a feeling with some of our younger readers that they will think this is a dream come true having a so called fairy God mother sharing her/his fortune when it does not really exist.
Any suggestions?
Aparently on the news the other day they were saying these scams have actually begun in parts of Africa/South America and unsuspecting people have been handing over their bank details and hard earned cash expecting to see million in return but the Australian authorities have asked people not to reply to these scams and report them.

Hi JB
Webmaster Grant probably has the ability to remove them, although it's probably a bitch of a job to delve back into postings and clean out the right ones.
In the 'daily digest' I get (all postings here sent regularly as an email) there are frequently many similar notices of scams and basically junk mail...luckily, it appears that the vast majority of these don't actually make the website. I think Grant already has some kind of junk filter in place, and this particular message just happened to get through.
Usually this particular style of message gets sent to an individual's mailbox...and even then they don't really tend to make much sense. When it's posted here on a website to no one in particular, I find it hard to believe someone will think it is addressed to them personally....yet apparently people do get sucked in. ?
I would think that anyone with an email address must've seen this message (perhaps reworded) so many times before that it is automatically ignored....but just in case you are considering sending them money, or giving away your bank details, you might like to consider sending it to ME instead, care of the above email address, and I'll make sure your cash is re-invested in improving this website and creating theatrical opportunities in THIS country. (after my holiday to Spain)
Cheers
Craig

Re: SCRAM SCAMMERS
Thanks for the follow up on these Craig and JB.
I've taken an even more aggressive approach with the scammers than those suggested:
http://theatre.asn.au/read.php?f=23&i=3042&t=2839
Once again, the scammer has left a trail that leads all the way to their door. I've notified their internet service provider and the AFP.
:-)

Re: I'm too familiar with these SCAMS craig
Hi Craig
Nah there is no way I would be silly enough to hand any details of mine over but I was not sure if there was a webmaster that took care of this site on a regular basis. Plus the amount of younger people who come on this site (some) might actually not be very familiar with these types of scams and think all dreamy eyed that their dreams have come true, a fairy god mother or father NOT.
Anyway thanks for the reply and I'm sure we will chat soon

Re: SCAMpering
Actually, I think we're all wrong. This woman called Joy is a delight.
I DID reply, just to see what would happen. I got a prompt response, treating me as a long-lost friend (although somehow forgetting to mention my name), and in return for me helping her, she and her son have agreed to give me 10% of their fortune as a foreign partner. They'd prefer it if I was to meet them in person, but in the event that I can't easily make it to Cote D'Ivoire, the security company that is holding their money (I'm a little fuzzy on exactly WHY) has affiliate offices in Holland and Thailand who will help me facilitate a transfer. They want me to give them my phone numbers to help speed up this process. Then her son can meet me in one of those countries to help claim the safety deposit box with all the money, once her lawyers have written a statement confirming me as a beneficiary...
Hmm, it just occured to me to ask her when we meet why her SON can't just do all the claiming, seeing as he is obviously free to leave the country, and would be a more trustworthy beneficiary? I guess my reputation has spread to the Ivory Coast!
Anyway, because I'm in the middle of tearing my house down to build another, I don't actually have a land-line, so I declined to give my number. But I did suggest to them that I'm quite keen to take a holiday (wouldn't mind seeing Egypt, and Kenya, maybe Jo'berg....) and why doesn't she give me HER address so I can meet her in Cote D'Ivoire as first suggested...
Unfortunately I haven't heard back for a while. But perhaps it's hard getting down to the local internet cafe in Abidjan when your late husband's bodyguards are on the warpath?
I'll keep you posted as I earn my US$1,800,000

"she" would be even more delightful behind bars where "she" belongs.
:-)
But for those that take a perverse pleasure in these kinds of things, googling for the subject of this post will return plenty of entertaining stories and not a few supporting photos from those that are beating the scammers at their own game, leading them on for months on end and encouraging them to perform more and more bizarre acts to prove their trustworthiness.

Re: joy_kk06@yahoo.fr - THIS IS A SCAM, Craig your views?
i got a similar email about some 20 yr old whose parents were assasinated by business associates in the same location in the middle of nowhere in Africa. What happens if someone were to open a brand new bank account like a savings account then what could they do?
