Has anyone seen Mulholland Drive with Actress Naomi Watts
Fri, 17 Sept 2004, 12:51 pmHi guys
I was lucky enough to get half of my question answered by craig (about Rocky Horror Show) thanks for that but I'm still hoping someone out there has seen the Movie 'Mulholland Drive' with the lovely actress Naomi Watts.
I was wanting to find out can anyone out there understand what this movie is all about especially the ending.
I'm really stumped with this film and cannot seem to let it go until I understand what the hell it was all about.
I hope someone out there knows what I am talking about.

Re: Has anyone seen Mulholland Drive with Actress Naomi Watts
It's been about 3 years since i saw Mulholland Drive, so my memory is a bit hazy. Two explanations:
1) It's art, so there is no correct interpretation.
2) If you want to rationalise it, try this: the first two-thirds (or thereabouts) of the movie is a "nice" dream being had by Watts' character. There's a scene in a theatre where she opens a box, that is basically where the dream ends and reality begins (the symbology of opening the box seems natural). The overall explanation: Watts' character is a struggling nobody actor with a ratshit life, and the first part of the movie is her fantasy dream of arriving in Hollywood all wholesome and sweet and then finding easy success and also having her lover (the brunette) being totally dependent on her... or something like that!
Why not try a google search also?

Re: Has anyone seen Mulholland Drive with Actress Naomi Watts
The character played by Watts is dead. She took her own life and now walks the earth. The events will be repeated and repeated. This is a brilliant story and as JG states, its art, and there are many different interpretations to this well thought out 'Lynch' piece.
