uh-huh THAT topic again!
Tue, 31 Aug 2004, 10:58 amsorry! if this is just a repeat of another post i have made but the other one didnt seem to be working... my name seems to be appearing everywhere lately, i dont mean to be a nuisance! (in other words if i am... tell me to piss off!)
anyway, to the point, i was reading some of the previous postings when i came across davids "how far would you go as an actor?", is seemed strange to me that the debate seemed to revolve around the fact that david had put on a few plays containing nudity during his career. well i thought i would bring up the topic in the hope of some real debate on the topic, hope you'll share your opinion/thoughts etc!
here's mine...
firstly, i think that an actor should take the question play by play. by that i mean i think that they should consider the play, the production as a whole, the director etc. before making a choice on whether or not they would expose themselves for the play, i think that making a blanket statement of "no i will not" only suceeds in closing doors. thats not to say that i believe all actors should run around in the nude screaming "thou britsh beast, ravish me"... but what is the harm in having an open mind??? and secondly lets face it, the theatre isnt a strip club and i would be among the first to condemn any play that sought to exploit an actors body, but this is ART people, i know it sounds cliche` but honestly there is a difference between being nude in the best interests of the play (whether entertainment value or condusive to the story/meaning) and exposing oneself in the interests of finance! although i don't think ANYONE should be pressured into nudity i DO think that we should keep an open mind, we might surprise ourselves, and if your descision is an informed one, how can it be wrong for you...
i cant say for sure that i would go nude, but if the right script came along and i was lucky enough to be able to have a go i would definetly have a serious look, at the same time remembering that if i chose to say yes, i would commit and for me, backing out wouldnt be an option... so who knows?
i hope this can lead to an interesting debate!!! ;-)
