hey there everyone,

just a quick question!

What is the part you most long to play??? the one part that you would give your eye teeth for, that part that yes, you WOULD kill for!!!

play/musical

PLAY - for me it has to be BRICK from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - Tennesse Williams, Paul Newman inspired me to no end with his performance in that film and the play is riddled with subtext that could be nothing but a joy to unravel on stage...

MUSICAL - now, this one changes depending on what mood im in and if i've just seen a show etc. right now it would have to be... Sweeney Todd, only heard the soundtrack but I cant get enough of "Not While I'm Around"

Well, love and peace to all!

Re: just a quickie!

Mine would have to be:

PLAY: Hard choice, there are too many.

MUSICAL: Lt. Cable from South Pacific, at the moment, but that is subject to change.

A slightly different version, to add to your question Andrew, what would you like to direct??

For me, it would be:

One act Play: A Streetcar Named Desire

Full Length Play: Hotel Sorrento

FL Play with Musical content: The Luck of the Draw (written by me, so you probably haven't heard of it yet).

MUSICAL: The Pirates of Penzance (role reversal!!)

Re: just a quickie!

Sorry people, I canÂ’t give you a definitive list but I can give you a short-list

ACTING

PLAY: Well, I am currently in the process of pencilling one of my dream roles off the list – Jack in “The Importance of Being Earnest”.
Others on the list: Lady Bracknell in “Earnest”;
Salieri in “Amadeus”;
Gloster in “King Lear”.

MUSICAL: Well, apart from the fact that I will never get the chance to play Mama Rose in “Gypsy”…
Albin in “La Cage aux Folles”;
Toddy in “Victor/Victoria”;
Max Bialystock in “The Producers”.
Oh, and of course the Tour Guide (a speaking not singing role) in Phillip GlassÂ’ opera Akhnaten.

Musicals that I would be more than happy to just be in the ensemble of:
“Sunday in the Park with George”;
“Sweeney Todd”;
“Passion”
(hmm.. detecting a trend with this oneÂ…).

DIRECTING
Luke Heath wrote:
> One act Play: A Streetcar Named Desire
?! IsnÂ’t Streetcar a full-length?

ONE-ACT PLAY
Euripides’ “The Cyclops” (the only fully extant Satyr play);
Cocteau’s “La Voix Humaine” (the original play not the Poulenc opera);
“Duke Bluebeard’s Castle” (the libretto to Bartok’s opera as a play).

FULL LENGTH PLAY
Shaffer’s “Equus”;
Aeschylus’ “The Persians”;
“Rashomon”;
Capek’s “The Makropolos Secret” (the play not the Janacek opera)

MUSICAL
“Candide”;
“Nine”;
“A Little Night Music”

DreamÂ’s IÂ’ve already pencilled off:
Jack in “Earnest” (currently in rehearsal)
Christopher Isherwood in “I Am A Camera”
Directing “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
Directing Stoppard’s “Travesties”

Re: just a quickie!

Paul, As far as I know, Streetcar is only one act, but is 11 scenes, so it may seem like a full length play.

I crossed my biggest fish off the top of the list only a few months ago... Iago in Othello. Ten years I waited, so I can't even begin to tell you how good it was to finally tackle it.

Nothing I'm really burning to do now, except maybe Lear, and since I'm still only 35, I'll give that one some time.

Musicals? I like the enigmatic ring to J.W. Booth in "Assassins". Apropos Paul's comments in another thread, I like Sondheim & Weidman's words probably more than the music, although Sondheim's treatment of "The Ballad of Booth", and the way it plays between Booth and the Balladeer, is pretty damn exciting.

Plus, few scenes in the modern musical theatre have the evil genius of that final dialogue between Booth and Oswald.

Directing wise, my wish-list of plays, musicals, and operas is exhaustive, and my reasons for wanting to stage them are beyond the capacities of even this board.

Re: just a quickie!

directing....... hard one,

i would have to say that i would love to direct "what the butler saw" - joe orton, and also "the glass menagerie" - tennesse williams, i would also like to try my hand at macbeth, i know i know its been done to death but i would like to put my own personal touch on that one... also id love to direct films - hey maybe the next harry potter movie! (just kidding!)

musicals, well i love that roaring 20s feel, gets me tapping my feet so "Thoroughly Modern Millie" would have to be right up there, and "Jekyll and Hyde" (minus Hasselhoff!!!), something a little abstract i love things that are just a little off centre, quirky, unique even...

id like to direct sweeney todd too! i wish i could say more about sondheim but ive only just discovered him so its off to the theatre for me!

and just to add to my "dream" roles above... anybody from "the sound of music" and if we can disregard gender for just a moment id love to play kim from "miss saigon", otherwise chris would do! and just one more... mungojerrie!

love and peace
