Would they ever forgive her for writing about something that they couldnÂ’t talk about?
Class Act Theatre Inc. presents
Hannie RaysonÂ’s
Hotel Sorrento
directed by Jenny Davis
(technical director: Jenny McNae)
Three sisters, brought together by a family tragedy, are trying to make sense of their lives, their place in the family, and their feelings about home and country. One of them has written a novel that appears to be a family exposé. Hotel Sorrento amuses us, provokes our sympathies, and challenges us to examine our own lives and relationships to our families and our nationhood, on the brink of a new century.
“Ten years on and the play has lost none of its appeal for me as we step out into the 21st century,” says director, Jenny Davis, “I am the middle of two sisters – I too have settled in another country, and I, too, have used a family story in a book and thought about the ownership of family stories. Hence my close identification with the play, and I am delighted to be working with Class Act Theatre and this excellent cast on such an important play in the Australian canon.”
Class Act Theatre continues its commitment to bring large cast popular works to Perth audiences and is proud to present this modern Australian classic by Hannie Rayson.
Hotel Sorrento stars Jay Walsh (On Our Selection), Francesca Waters (Bed), Gerald Hitchcock (A Swell Party), Shirley Van Sanden (Romeo and Juliet), Angelique Malcolm (Othello), Alinta Carroll (Beauty and the Beast), Benj DÂ’Addario (Bell Shakespeare Co.), and Nicholas McRobbie (Conundrum).
