Suggestion for new page heading
Fri, 6 Aug 2004, 09:37 amHaving read the many posts from young hopefuls looking for guidance on this website, I'd like to make a suggestion.
Perhaps a new area could be created for tips on how to get started in theatre. With the wealth of knowledge held by the experienced actors within these posts I'm sure a very informative guide would result. This would reduce the number of posts requesting auditions, agents, jobs etc, as well as reduce the many repetitive replies.

Re: Suggestion for new page heading
I think they are both fine ideas though I don't think they will stop such postings. I am also not mortally offended by people putting up the "employ me. i'm great" notices. Lets face it they are harmless and what's wrong with a bit of naive idealism some times?
I also think there is some validity in renaming the posts. From my observations "Tech Talk" and "Musicals and Operas" are just that and the postings true to their titles. Greenroom Gossip is what it says also
Billboard Bulletins and Theatre Classifieds are really simliar and could be merged
That leaves an area free? "Topic of the Month" maybe? Who knows! Maybe acting courses could advertise in there in a "skills/ workshops/ oportunities" section. Certainly be better than clogging up the auditions page
Theatre reviews could be changed to "Opinion" or "I just Saw" because i can't remember the last review i read there.
But..and the point to my post, all ideas are great but someone has to do the and i suspect its still Grant Malcolm and, as i remind everyone from time to time, i'd like us to remember what a great thing he has done to the theatre community via this website
Thanks again Grant (and the unnamed others)

When I initiate a post, I try to make sure 'Billboard Bulletins' is for the actual advertising of a show or event; 'Theatre Classifieds' for things like help wanted, prop needed, music gear for sale, etc; everything else goes into 'Greenroom Gossip'.
Maybe there could be a whole section devoted to people who want to say 'I love acting, so please let me know about jobs'...so at least they would be all grouped together to make it easier for all the talent scouts who are desperate to find young actors by looking at websites...
Cheers,
Craig

Well thats great to hear
But i think users of this site can do a few things to elevate it from becoming a mish mash of back slapping, advertorials and general flotsam
A few things.
One. Please don't rate your own posts
Two. Full names only on review pages (stand by your words!). No pseudonyms for the sake of advertising a loved ones show. I re-read all the positings for the last few months (yes, i was bored) and only a handful are actualy reviews, a lot are done by ex cast members, husbands and people with heavy vested interest. i dont mind them doing it but tell us your interest.
Three; Keep to the correct forums
Four; Dont multi post
Lets not abuse the resource that is here. i'm sick of people saying, " The ITA sight is pointless. i never look at it now"
There you go. Five second rant. putting soapbox away

Maybe we could have a "scripts" forum, which would put the "attachment" attachment to good use. And directors, or people wanting to direct plays, like myself, could find new, local material.

At this stage, attachments are restricted to picture attachments, under a certain size. Attaching large documents would take up too much storage space and take forever to load.
Also, there's the issue of intellectual property...if it's a published script you have no right to post it, and if it's your own, you ought to be protecting it.
Cheers,
