Chatty Cathy Syndrome

And now for something completely different!

I wonder if those who act in productions get as peed off by
patrons that talk out loud during the performance of a play
(particularly in an intimate theatre such as the one I am currently
performing in - namely KADS)as I do.

In this age of mobile phones many theatres make an announcement
that such devices be turned off....I wonder that with people being used to chattering in front of the telly they forget that actors in live shows can (shock horror!) actually hear!

Perhaps it is getting to the stage where we should ask patrons to switch off their mouths too!

Just thought it might be something to discuss on here.

Anyone else got any ideas about this?

Cheers

Robert :)

This has always been happening in theatre, long before bleepers & mobile phones & TV. It is part of the atmosphere & what it is all about!
At least we donÂ’t encourage punters to sit in on the stage & join in or flog them rotten fruit & vegies to throw at the performers, as was the case in my day!
Although on the other hand, having the punters pay the extra price of a premium ticket, for a seat to be able to join in the action on stage - Does have merit & possibly big FOH sales in old fruit ‘n vegies- may be worth thinking about?
