Oh What a Night
Tue, 24 Feb 2004, 09:36 pmOn Sunday 22nd February, I went to Oh what a night at Burswood threate in Perth.
It was amazing what a show.
Tee Jay was great what a voice, and Kathy Sledge she was awesome.
I really enjoyed the show I recommend it to everyone.. You must go and see it...
Entertainment plus and dancing you can get up to dance that is if the people behind you are ok with it...
Anyway go to the amazing show in Perth until the 6th March, do not wait go get yourself tickets now....
Cheers

Yes, I've heard that too, and from people who actually know better. Yet they're still charging $70 odd dollars per ticket. Probably better off hiring a disco DVD and miming to that!

Re: Oh What a Night
its what we call a casino show!!
one that emerged atleast 12 months ago in a commercial venue with a predominantly commercial cast....it was horrible then.....not as horrible as footloose, but horrible...so then why would you bring it back again with a cast we've never heard of??!!

Re: Oh What a Night
I got given a free ticket to the first performance of "Oh What A Night". Now, I'm a sucker for anything to do with the era of the 70s and so I had a reasonably good time listening to the music and watching the dancing, however, if I had paid $70 or $80 to see this show I would have been sorely disappointed. Granted it was opening night, but when I go to see such an expensive Burswood show I do not expect to witness technical mistakes (what was with the curtain guys? did i actually see technical crew struggling to wheel the band on stage???!! I was cringing in my seat!!!), dance moves going wrong and some really questionable performances. Sure it was a treat to watch the actor who plays Warren in the Virgin mobile ads (sorry his name eludes me right now) in an amusing extension of his popular advertisement character, but Kathy Sledge, who is being billed as the star of the show, left a lot to be desired. Yes, she has a lovely voice and i enjoyed watching her sing songs like "We Are Family”, but I couldn't believe how uncomfortable and awkward she looked on stage when it came to her 'acting'. Didn't she have an acting coach to help her out. I just don't expect to be laughing at someone’s performances when I see an $80 touring show! In terms of story and character I think it was probably the worst 'musical' I have seen conceived. And I have honestly seen amateur musicals at companies like Playlovers and Wanneroo Rep played with more conviction, professionalism and polish! I was at a loss to witness how ecstatic people were at the end of the show. Are people’s standards really that low? i will reiterate that I did enjoy the music, but it's not anything I couldn't listen to on a cd and I also think I was more allowing and accommodating because it was a free ticket. I seriously can't believe they have the nerve to charge so much. I mean, I'm sure the show will get tighter and snappier as the run goes along, but shouldn't it have already been at a presentable stage from the word go. C'mon, it wasn't their first ever performance in front of a live audience!
Cheers,
Wazza.

Everyone has a option, however it just came at the wrong time of year.
But I tell you I really enjoyed myself, must say second half was better then first.
But I laugh and laugh Stretch played by Nigel Roche was amazing and funning.

Re: Starry, Starry Night
Or should that read Star Wars?
Great to see that you care passionately about what some people had to say about Oh What a Night but isn't it a little telling when you're assigning your own posts five stars and posts from those with differing opinions only one?
Personally, I'm inclined to rate your response to Talissa's request for information four stars for a timely and helpful response.
But I don't think your three line "I really enjoyed myself" rebuttal of Luke and Simon's remarks is worth the five stars you've given yourself.
:-)
Disagree? It's a free country (or was until recently). Vote me down.
Cheers

Re: ...Perhaps they'll listen now **
Hi Grant
All it needs is for others to assign votes to a post with biased votes like these ones, and the average star rating will quickly sort itself into something more realistic.
How is the old star system working? I notice most posts don't get rated, so occasionally someone will flag one of note with a four or five star rating...but we virtually never see a one or two star rating. If we do, like in this case, where I assume from the context the voter was intending to give a low score...the effect is actually to make it appear semi-decent because it's better than the zero that most posts rate.
If it was conceived of as less of a 'star rating' and more as a 'score out of 5' (or 10,...and maybe include zero as an option?), would there be more inclination by readers to rate posts? If posts were more widely rated, the averages would mean something...perhaps then it could be possible to search for helpful or worthy posts by their high rating?
Maybe if a score from zero to ten could be assigned each time you rate a post, we could then see the average score, and then when certain averages are achieved, a star could mark it? So an average rating of 9 or above would definitely be a 5 star rating, 7 or 8 could be 4 star...etc...with scores below 3 not earning any stars, for instance.
I'm not attempting to figure out the math involved or the coding that "someone" would have to write, but it would be an interesting aspect to the posts.
Cheers

Re: Oh What a Night
I'm a student, but I'm in correspondence with a close friend of Todd's, who asked me to help publicise the concert, and since this place is full of Perthies, it looked like a good place to advertise.
I do also run a small website and message board, that still has a lot of work to do, but it's getting there, slowly.
Thanks for helping me out with the cast list. I hate it when a show's on somewhere and I can't find out who's in it.
