Are you playing CD's, tapes or records during your shows? You've probably realised that you must have a licence from APRA in order to do so. So you've dutifully jumped through all the hoops and obtained, at great expense (just kidding) the relevant APRA licence. That's it, done, you're legal.WRONG!Chances are that you also require a PPCA licence too.The following quote is from "Australian Leisure Management June/July 1998":"PPCA's repertoire covers all musical genres and over 95% of all sound recordings commercially available in Australia. A PPCA licence should also not be confused with one issued by the Australiasian Performing Right Association Ltd (APRA). There are 2 copyrights to be found in any musical work - APRA represents the copyright of the song/lyric and publisher whilst PPCA represents the copyright belonging to the recording artist and record company."Is anyone else wondering if it wouldn't be easier just to build the licences into the cost of the CD in the first place?PPCA can be contacted on (02) 9267 7877 or visit http://www.ppca.com.au.
