Duck Bunny Theatre1 post in thread
In a re-imagining of John Steinbeck’s The Pearl, Duck Bunny Theatre’s new satirical play The Fridge, mocks the powerful, and exposes the foolish in a comedic fable about the clash of want versus need premiering at The Street Theatre 11 October. Working on a Masters degree on satire, and with more than twenty years in the theatre industry, Canberra based playwright and director Alister Emerson has created a work to make audiences laugh and to wince as they see themselves in a new light at the same time. The Fridge has been developed in Canberra over the past two years and has enjoyed the creative support of the Canberra theatre community. Canberra Youth Theatre’s Associate Artists program provided a staged reading in 2012 and this year Emerson has benefited from the dramaturgical input of Peter Matheson through the Street Theatre’s HIVE and presents the work in association with their Made in Canberra program. The satirical style of the show provides challenges for all members of the cast. Six of the eight actors in this work play multiple characters which orbit around two central characters. This creates a Monty Python-esque energy to the play which defies traditional theatrical conventions and demands the actors deliver performances, which are nuanced yet larger than life at the same time. Where: The Street Theatre When: Friday 11 October & Saturday 12 October @ 7.30pm Saturday 12 October & Sunday 13 October @ 4pm Tickets: $25 Adult / $20 Concession BOOK NOW: (02) 6247 1223 or http://www.thestreet.org.au
