The York Mill is embracing the inaugural York Medieval Fayre with a special gastronomic event. On November 3, The York Mill’s Saw Tooth Shed will host a long table banquet dinner with mead and canapés on arrival followed by a three-course meal. Live entertainment includes French dancers, juggling, fire-dancing and music from The Ferrymen with prizes for the best-dressed medieval guest. The banquet leads up to the medieval-themed Daytime Fayre in Avon Park from 9.30am to 4pm on November 4, near the Avon River. Entertainment includes knights in flashing armour, lords and ladies in costume, medieval sword-play, blacksmiths, face-painting, a modern-day fencing tournament, birds of prey exhibition, live music, food and craft stalls and spot prizes. Tickets are $5 on the day at the gate and children under 10 get in free (they must be accompanied by an adult). The York Mill Managing Director John Langton said he was thrilled his venue was associated with the first-time event. “It’s a real opportunity to participate and contribute in redefining York as an event and fayre town,” he said. “When the medieval fayre was first suggested by organiser Will Buton it seemed a natural step to offer a long table banquet-themed dinner in support. “The idea grew from there and we’re delighted with the level of interest and pre-dinner ticket sales. “It’s safe to say all those lucky enough to secure a ticket are in for a real treat.” Event organiser Will Buton added: “The fayre concept has been in the back on my mind for some time so, to finally bring it to fruition with the support of many local businesses and the local shire, is really satisfying. “The event has also been given a major supporting hand with Healthway sponsorship. “The medieval community has been really supportive of the fayre, ensuring something for everyone both young and old. “We would love to make this an annual event, expanding it to a couple of days, and York’s proximity to Perth may well make this a reality.” The long table banquet dinner is 6.30pm to 11.30pm, November 3 – tickets are $69.50 and $30 for children aged five to 12. Tickets are available pre-sale only by calling 9641 2900 or emailing marketing@theyorkmill.com.au or phoning 9641 2900. No BYO. The York Mill is at 10 Henrietta Street, York.
