'As The World Warps' - Starts Wednesday!
Sat, 1 Feb 2003, 11:35 amHi All,
Here's a few words about 'As The World Warps', the new Workyticket Productions show starting Wed Feb 5th at The Fly By Night Club in Fremantle. If you're in the mood for a fun, entertaining show which I guarantee will make you laugh come down and check it out:
Workyticket Productions presents 'As The World Warps', an irreverent dark comedy coming to the 2003 Perth Fringe Festival.
Written and directed by local artist Cavan Gallagher (Whose last show 'The Great Unwashed' had a successful run at the Blue Room in early 2002), 'As The World Warps' centres around Chrissy, a TV-obsessed couch potato who runs over and kills an actress. Unintentionally killing herself in the smash, Chrissy ends up in Hell where she is given an appropriate punishment: to spend eternity living as a character in her favourite soap opera.
What starts off as all her dreams come true becomes a wild ride through the unrealistic world of soaps. The cheesy, undeveloped characters, badly written script and lack of any form of decent plot begin to consume Chrissy’s mind leaving only one thought – ESCAPE!
'As The World Warps' uses comic techniques similar to those in TV’s ‘Spaced’ and ‘Big Train’ but with an Australian influence, creating an eagle-eyed satire of soap operas.
Writer/Director Cavan Gallagher: “This is the second time we will be running the show: we enjoyed a hugely successful run at the Hayman Theatre in 2000 and due to popular demand we’re coming back for the 2003 Fringe Festival. Love or loathe soap operas, we guarantee you’ll find something in this show to raise a chuckle!”
Starring Michelle Baginski, Craig Edwards, Olivia Hogan, Dean McAskil, Angelique Malcolm, Jo Marsh and Jana Sardelic, As The World Warps commences February 5 2003 at the Fly By Night Club in Fremantle and runs till February 15. Doors open at 7pm with the play commencing at 8:00pm (Sunday Feb 9th will be an evening show with doors opening at 5pm & the play commencing at 6). Audiences are welcome to come earlier to enjoy exclusive musical entertainment by Stewart Andrew, one of PerthÂ’s most promising young acoustic artists (Jubal on Sun 9th). More music will follow the play till around 10pm.
Tickets are $18 adults and $15 concession. All bookings can be made by phoning the Fly By Night Club on 9430 5976.
