Get In2Action – learn how to be a coming attraction

Budding actors have the chance to step up to the stage this October to learn more about auditions and performing successful monologues.

Highly-experienced brother-and-sister team Martin and Amanda Crewes have formed In2Action to help give people a special insight into three main areas: acting, voice and movement.

“If you want to act, you need a repertoire of good monologues at your command from the time you begin your career until that happy day when your work is well known to casting directors in the business,” Amanda said.

“We help people find a ‘process into performance’ that best suits them and their acting style.

“There are systematic processes for rehearsing monologues for auditions, acting classes and public performances and we explore these by looking at the works of theatre practitioners across the ages.

“We also deal with anxiety and self-doubt and help people prepare themselves psychologically.”

Amanda graduated from the WA Academy of Performing Arts in 1998 and has worked professionally with Effie Crump, Class Act, Handzon, Agelink, Kompany M, Melbourne’s Playbox and Barking Gecko Theatres, Dirty Dicks Theatre Restaurant and the Perth Theatre Company.

She has also performed several professional independent theatre groups in shows such as Italian American Reconciliation, Wolfe Lullaby and Conundrum, which earnt her Equity Guild Award nomination for best supporting actress.

Martin, another WAAPA graduate, has a prominent professional international career, performing in South Pacific, Les Misérables, Hair, West Side Story, Oh! What a Night and the Australian productions of The Man from Snowy River: Arena Spectacular and Doctor Zhivago (both scoring him Helpmann Award nominations). His film and television roles include, among others, Resident Evil and Dream Team.

“Our classes are also designed to cater for students undertaking their WA Certificate of Education exams in 2011,” Amanda said.

“We focus audition preparations into short, concise sessions that allow students to direct their out-of-class attentions on WACE exam study.

“Essentially, we put an emphasis on building confidence in the physical body, develop techniques for control of vocal delivery and look at how to release energy and excitement when performing for an audience.”

Classes are held in St Stephen’s School theatre in Duncraig from 7pm to 9pm, October 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 and 31 with a 7pm performance on November 9.
