L^3, LLL or Loves Labours Lost!Keep your eyes peeled for colourful posters promoting Loves LaboursLost, Blak Yak's production of Shakespeare's classic comedy. The King and his friends swear to dedicate themselves to study for threeyears and allow no distracting women in their presence. Their promise isno sooner made than the beautiful Princess of France arrives with herthree gorgeous ladies in waiting! The four men fall desperately in love with the women - but don't want tobe caught breaking their vows. A string of comic encounters, masqueradesand a disguised rendevouz ensue. Into this melting pot are thrown afantastical Spaniard, a learned schoolmaster, Constable Dull and host ofother memorable and hilarious characters. This production, set in the late 19 century, remains very true toShakespeare's text, yet is still fresh and lively and promises somethingfor audiences of all ages. This is Grant Malcolm's second visitation to the lightest and brightestof Shakespeare's comedies, having staged it previously in the DolphinTheatre at UWA. "This play has only recently come into its own", saysdirector Grant Malcolm. "It has probably been performed more times inthe last 50 years, than throughout the rest of its 400 year history.""The characters are immediately recognisable to a modern audience. Theybelong to a family of broadly drawn figures of fun that have been thestock and trade of comic writers for the past 400 years. They leap offthe page like comic strip characters in a pop up picture book.""The storyline is in essence a situation comedy - a form familiar to usfrom so many tv shows. The plot is amongst the simplest and leastinvolved of any of Shakespeare's comedy and culminates in a remarkable, beautiful and quite unexpected bitter-sweet ending."Don't miss out!The show opens Friday 22 May and runs for a very short 3 week seasonclosing on Saturday 6 June.Book your tickets now!
