Subsciptions ... which one's are useful and not so useful?

Thanks to all who participate in advance :flowers: Shellee My passion for acting has returned since many years of a 9-5 career in boredom. It has been the best move I have made returning to my passion of performimg. I am fortunate to have created a normal existance in the workplace to help fund my hobby. Which brings me to wonder the usefulness of some website and subscriptions. I am well aware of the need to climb my own ladder in this profession...I don't expect a silver platter... It just would be nice to know where to invest money and where not to. As this to me is more a love of performing not an income. I look at those with experience as great teachers to my craft. The majority of which I am yet to meet, with confidence I know that this is the start of my long venture and would like to know if anyone has any advise on my question???

There are thousands of audition sites popping up every day, the majority of which are just out to get your/advertiser money. The gems are few and far between.

Hi Shellee. I see from your profile you are signed up with StarNow. I don't know too much about them, but they did contact me about the current show I'm auditioning, after (I'm assuming) seeing the audition notice on this site. They then posted a free audition notice for me, which I have had several inquiries from. (Don's Party - Melville theatre) Another member of this site, Labrug, has had good things to say about StarNow. Honestly, if auditions for community theatre in Perth is what you are looking for, you could do a lot worse than keeping an eye on the auditions tab on this site. Jeff www.meltheco.org.au

What are you looking for?

Community Theatre: The best to my knowledge for Community Theatre Australia wide is to my knowledge and without bias this web site. Community Theatre Groups across the country are turning towards this site more and more. There are dozens of companies signing up weekly and posting their production and audition details here. :: At a local level, many companies will have their own web page and newsletter services. Find a local theatre group and become a member.

Professional Theatre: Pretty much all Auditioning for Professional Theatre around the country is done only through official theatrical casting agents. Occasionally, you may find a General Casting Call, usually done through the official website for the production in question, particularly when you have touring productions.

Low Budget and Unpaid Theatre/Film: There are numerous web sites that cater toward this section including Star Now. You may occassionally find a For Profit Productions advertised here but very rarely will you find mainstream feature films or theatrical productions. Many may also cover Modelling, Music and other fields, such as Star Now, but they are usually just off Mainstream material

Professional Flim/TV: Unless you already know someone in the industry, then your best option is to find a reputable agent when trying to pursue Professional Gigs. There are plenty of agents that focus on Extra Work which is a great way to get paid experience and develop a contacts list. :: There are also occasional general casting calls which pop up once in a blue moon.

SHOW CAST: There is one OFFICIAL Web site for all Professional Film and Television. It is the official Australian Source Web for Producers, Agents and Actors. It is not cheap due to the services they provide. http://www.theatre.asn.au/weblink/show_cast_australian_casting_website

That pretty much covers all the bases I think.

I would like to thank those who took the time to help me with my query. on a more personal note Thank you Naomi, I will spend a little time reading your links Thank you Jeff Hansen, I think your up and coming production sounds great (Don's Party) I will come along to one of the audition days. :) Last but not least, Thank you Jeff Watkins. I will be looking into your link. I went to the Garrick Theatre last night to watch the production 'Hay Fever', which was very good, while I was there I took the time to join for 2011 as a member. I also noticed some of your photography work there on the wall. I am really enjoying myself at the moment. It is great to be in such good company :flowers: Shellee
