Hi all! I just signed up today so I have no idea if Im being rude and not having made an intro first like some forums require you to do so....please forgive me if this is the case. I havent been acting for quite some time now; perhaps a little over 10 years. I was mainly doing theatre and extras work, but was very keen on getting into film and tv just like a million other hopefulls hehe Im looking for representation and was wondering if anyone has heard of PG's Agency in Sydney? Private message me if its easier. I'm very much looking forward to being a part of this forum. :-) Sorry guys, I just wanted to also mention that I have read FAQ and did my research so now Im just looking for some personal experience or advice about this particular agent as its been a number of years since I've worked.

Anonymous Personal Advice

I feel I should advise you of one thing (and it is for ANYONE asking a question like this on ANY public forum) - Anonymous Advice. As has been observed numerous times on this site, you can never be certain who you are getting advice from, especially from GUEST or NON-REGISTERED users.

Often, you will get slanderous comments from rival agencies or people with a personal (as opposed to Professional) grudge, or self-promotional comments in the guise of various anonymous people.

That is why we say it is best to do your own research and make the Majority of your decision on that. Hence the extensive FAQ that you have read through.

I have done a little Google Searching on your behalf and have found the following

Quiet On Set information page - I get the Quiet On Set Newsletter, and while (for me) the focus is NSW, I have found their information to be reliable. The fact the PGs is here is a good sign, but not a Confirmation.

Vogue Forum where PGs is mentioned

I also found a number of actors prepared to state them as their agent - one on www.starnow.com.au

Most telling is the LACK of negative postings anywhere. Considering that they have been around for a number of years, that is also a good thing.

Finally, any agent that has this on their site wins a vote from me. Apparently, they host regular information sessions (see the link) so you may want to go to one of those.

All that said and done, the above points should be rated less significantly to the requirements to get on their books.

Thank you for the advice Mr

Thank you for the advice Mr Watkins. I do appreciate any advice I can get at the moment having been out of the performing arts business for such a long time now. Ive done my research and am also an avid receiver of QOS newsletter for quite some time now. I did also see the PG's agency advertisement a while ago in QOS. PG's used to be my agent when I was first starting out as an extra and I'm curious to see what others have to say about how they are today. Whether they are still a fantastic agency to work with like they used to be. Thanks in advance guys for any feedback. :-))

hey guys, long time reader, first time commenter Im considering signing up with PG's as well they dont seem to advertise much and they are very friendly. The only thing that has detered me is that, like most talent rep's ive researched they charge a fee. can you guys make any sugeestions as to why this might be, or provide me with some good feedback about pgs thanks so much :)

Fees

Many agents do charge fees for optional services, such as a photographics session. Honestly, it could be for anything and you would best to ask them directly what the fee includes. While they are technically not able to enforce an upfront fees, they sometimes include services which you may find useful.

These might also help you

http://www.alliance.org.au/resources/download/draft_standard_artists_representation_contract/

http://www.alliance.org.au/resources/download/nsw_agent_information/ - While it says NSW, it is relevant Nation Wide.

As it clearly states in the second link...

Under the Entertainment Industry Act 1989, an agent can only charge the following percentages of a performers salary as commission:

  1.  for an engagement involving film, television or electronic media - 10%;
  2.  for live theatre, live musical or variety performances - 10% for any period up to five weeks and then 5% for any period after;
  3.  in all other cases - 10%.

Commission is negotiated on the performers negotiated rate excluding:

  •  travelling and meal allowances;
  •  holiday pay;
  •  long service leave and superannuation payment;
  •  overtime or penalty payments which are paid on an irregular basis;
  •  Award or minimum payments in respect of rehearsals.
