Local theatre near fremantle area?
Sun, 23 May 2010, 09:40 pmHi, id like to join an amateur theatre group, i havent had any experience and would like to know some places around me i could possibly join.
I live in Cockburn near Fremantle. I've looked at Phoenix, being a very close theatre near me, Melville and Rockingham a possibility also. Are there any other places i dont know about? Also has anyone been to these theatres? can you tell me your experiences from them?
I have sent an email to phoenix, have received a reply and now am waiting to be passed on to someone about becoming a member there...
I dont know what to expect, so id like to be prepared before becoming a member and want to know they're a good company to work with.
Can people tell me things such as which are the best places, what being a member means, if you usually have to pay, do they have classes or just train for a production, how often during a week do members meet, that sort of thing.Im a full time uni student(18yr old) so a fairly flexible schedual would be nice...but anyway tell me anything you can. I will probably also ask the company directly (if your thinking that)but i also want to find out what others think and experiences.
Thanks
PS: sorry if someone has already asked this, im new to this site lol
:)

Sun, 23 May 2010, 10:22 pmHi Alexandra.
There is also Harbour Theatre in Freo.
Which are the best places? That probably depends on you. Each will have it's pros and cons depending on what you are looking for.
I can speak on behalf on Melville, as the current president.
All members receive a monthly Newsletter keeping them up-to-date on people and events, a discount on tickets, i.e. $13 instead of the usual price of $17 (for the member only) and are welcome to come to our Social events.
In addition, Full Members (including Concession Members) are eligible to audition for and take part in our productions and may vote at the Annual General Meeting. They are also eligible to join the Management Committee.
We don't run classes. Auditions are held regularly, and we currently produce 6 seasons a year. We are always on the lookout for new actors, directors, set builders, front-of-house helpers, etc.
Rehearsals generally are Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday afternoon, though this may vary from show to show.
You can find more about our club at our website, including upcoming auditions. The next audition is Saturday 29th May.
