Occasional Liquor Licenses?

The Graduate Dramatic Society is having great difficulty with its occasional license applications. The Grads committee would like to hear from other clubs that are finding that Police Licensing crackdowns are adversely affecting their operations. For several years Grads has obtained an occasional license to operate the bar at the Dolphin Theatre, UWA. Usually, only a limited number of licenses (3?) are issued to any club or group in a year. By arguing that, while the licenses obtained were for 7.30-11pm, the bar was only used for 90 minutes of that period, the society was able to squeeze another three licenses. This meant you could have a bar on the opening and closing nights of three seasons... not wonderful.Whilst the law has not changed since 1988, the society has found itself now unable to obtain an occasional license at all. The club is told the problem relates to minors having access to the bar area. Apparently the wet area must be cordoned off and access for minors restricted unless they are accompanied by an adult. There are plenty of other venues in town that don't have these restrictions. Is this cordoning restriction peculiar to an occasional license? Are any other companies facing similar restrictions? The club has been told it cannot even sell the "light" beer available at the corner deli.CheersGrant
