Tue, 12 Feb 2002, 09:08 pmAs far as I know, it is called the Green Room because it was originally painted green, which is the most restful colour for the eyes to look at, the idea being to allow the actor down time before-during-after a performance.
The green room has a lot of functions, those stated above most notably. Also, it is a handy place to keep actors while they wait to go on, so the director/stage manager doesn't have a fit.
