The Perth International Arts Festival’s Lotterywest Floating Film event at Bayswater’s Riverside Gardens, originally scheduled for February 28, will now take place a day earlier on February 27. Concerns were raised about noise coming from the Future Music Festival at Ascot Racecourse on February 28 possibly affecting the film screening and it was decided to change the date. All other aspects of the event remain the same – as the sun sets over the Swan River, a gigantic floating screen will light up with an animated, family-friendly film from the popular Asterix series at 7.30pm. The 78-minute, G-rated Asterix and the Vikings sees Asterix and Obelix trying to transform their chief’s lazy nephew into a warrior while a group of Vikings travel to their village to discover the meaning of fear. Bayswater Mayor Terry Kenyon said Riverside Gardens is an ideal venue for the event, allowing families to come along and enjoy a picnic in a picturesque setting on the Swan River foreshore. “There’s also plenty of pre-show entertainment to keep everyone entertained before the movie starts,” he said. “Asterix and the Vikings is a wonderful family film featuring some terrific animation and great humour, plus exceptional voiceover work from actors such as Brad Garrett (Robert in Everybody Loves Raymond) and John Di Maggio (Bender from Futurama Perth International Arts Festival Artistic Director Shelagh Magadza added: “The Festival's free Floating Films event is guaranteed fun for families and friends, set in some of Perth’s most beautiful spots. “Come along and picnic under the stars before settling back to watch the comic adventures of Asterix and the Vikings, which brilliantly captures the charm and humour of this popular hero.” The Bayswater Riverside Gardens are off Milne Street and have barbecue facilities on site. People with picnics are welcome from 6pm on February 27. Only blankets and low chairs are allowed, to ensure everyone has a good view of the screen.
