Quite a few people have asked me, "What's happening with Blak Yak's next play? I thought it was 'Dead Poets Society', not this Latin 'Fish of the Day' thingie?"

The simple answer is, Blak Yak are presenting the stage version of the movie 'Dead Poets Society', but Disney won't let us call it 'Dead Poets Society'.

We have been in frequent contact with author Tom Schulman (who won an Academy Award for his original screenplay). From the start, Mr Schulman gave us his blessing and requested only that, instead of a flat fee for royalties, we donate a percentage of the ticket sales to a September 11 disaster relief charity of his choice.

However, Disney owns the rights to the movie and the name (but not the script) and have refused us permission to use the original title.

So, if you'd like to see the inspiring (Academy Award winning) story of six schoolboys inspired to look outside their cloistered boundaries by one unconventional teacher, and would like (in a small way) to contribute towards a worthy charity, then come along and see Blak Yak's production of 'Carpé Diem'.

Thanks to the very kind people at Playlovers, we will be performing at Hackett Hall (Draper St, Floreat, WA) at 8 pm on Feb 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16. Bookings on 0500-52-52-59 (cost of a local call). More info on the "What's On" page.
