Extras Agency

Hi there! I am looking to join an extras agency just to supplement my income doing something strange. I am looking for any information anyone has, pros or cons, in regards to extras agencies. I know there is a thread on here already in regards to this but it is almost four years old and things change pretty quickly. I have acting training but am just looking for extra work at the moment. Anything and everything you can post will be appreciated and probably not just by me. I'll start the ball rolling by saying I once signed up to TalentBank (this is a few years ago now) I paid around $200 for 12 months and a photo session. The photos were terrible and I didn't get a single job. I now know to not sign with an agency that asks for a joining fee. Thanks for your time!

In all honesty...

Asking a question like this has only demonstrated time and time again that a lot of the information you gather from forums such as this can be tainted by users with personal agendas to either con or mislead you. Occasionally you will get very helpful advice and I am not knocking that at all.

The best advice anyone can offer you is to shop around, ask questions - lots of questions. Do not single out any specific agency, just know what to look for. To that end, there is a wealth of information that you can research on this very site. It is under our FAQ section but for convenience, here is the direct link..

Read through this section. it is some of the best advice you will find.

Thanks

Yeah, I've been through the 'what to look for' and 'what to ask' info, it has been helpful. I was hoping for recommendations from people who actually use these extra agencies. Because the agencies are never going to be as honest as someone who is on their books. Thanks for the link though and thanks for replying.

Who is who?

The problem is that you can never be sure of the character of the person offering you their "experience." They could be rivals, people with grudges or those that expected everything to be done for them and were disappointed when it didn't happen. Then again, they could be attempting to make the agency look good.

Filtering through all that to find out the posts of truth is hard. Sometimes it is best to have your list of requirements ready and then see how they measure up.
