Raffling for a cause: Bayswater Senior Citizens Centre helping Haiti
Thu, 21 Jan 2010, 08:06 pmFollowing the devastating Haiti earthquake, the Bayswater Senior Citizens Centre is reaching out to lend a hand.
The centre is calling on people to support its raffle to help raise money for the current Red Cross appeal, either through donating prizes or buying a ticket.
“The Haiti earthquake is something we will never understand and the enormity of it is almost beyond comprehension,” Bayswater Mayor Terry Kenyon said.
“But this is a time when people are suffering and we can offer them assistance in some way – even helping just one person is an achievement.
“Australians are renowned for pitching in and lending a hand when it’s really needed, even if it’s just sparing a few dollars for some raffle tickets or helping out with prizes.
“It doesn’t matter how big or small… but if we all contribute and work together, we can help these people get back on track and rebuild their lives.”
To make a donation or buy a raffle ticket, drop in to the centre at 27 King William Street, Bayswater (WA), or call (08) 9271 5198. The raffle will be drawn on February 26.
