RE: W.A. Agents

I'd probably have stuck this once (and only once) into 'Totally WA' but there we go...

'Actors Management' and 'Frog' are probably the two top agencies in Perth (they got all the actors burned in the 'Ace' fiasco). I have friends with 'Actors Plus' who think they are great. 'Impressions'...ask someone else.

You can find the contact details for all these agencies in the business section of the Perth White Pages.

Hope this helps,

What was the ace fiasco?

RE: W.A. Agents

Don't ask. Myself and a colleague nearly got very badly burnt when we almost bought the bloody agency. They were just waiting for a couple of suckers like us to come along and incur the massive debts that ACE owed to the previous owners. Thank goodness, my friend knew a lawyer or we might've lost our homes.

I've heard some very good things about Actors plus. I wouldn't bother with Actors management. If you're looking for representation for cabaret and the like then BBC Entertainment is who I would recommend. The others only really deal with TV.

As an ex-client of one mentioned agency and an extremely happy member of the other, I would be very interested to hear more about these statements, which are very easy to make behind the mask of anonymity (ie not providing an email address). Why wouldn't you bother with AM? If it is because they are very choosy in who they take on, then fair enough. Their pickiness is great for those of us on their books, as it ensures a high standard for casting agents, without cluttering up the office with everyone who walks in the door. However, this is less than ideal for a young performer looking to get some exposure - it is quite hard to make the cut. Other than that, why not AM? I ask with interest, and also in a hope that you are not just slanging off another agency just because you happen to be on the books with a competitor.

And before it is said, yes, I did leave Actors Plus after the ACE collapse, but that was nobody's fault - I merely felt that Actors Management was a better place for me, and my career has prospered as a result. However, that was a personal decision, and I have little to say about Actors Plus - nothing bad, and wasn't around long enough to say much good.

I am, however, very interested to hear you expand on what you have anonymously posted - I hope that you say these things for some reason, and not just because you wanted to refute some of the vitriol from some other ex agency members.

Cheers and feel free to post to my email,
Toby

RE: W.A. Agents

Actors Management are fine if you understand what they can and can't do for you. For myself I've had some lucrative jobs from them. ( I have a clear understanding with them that I WILL NOT DO AUDITIONS ANY MORE. And so not surprisingly I get much less work. But at 67 yrs old I save myself the fag of auditions.
And that leads to anotherhelpful (hopefully) point waaatch out for producers of commercials who use "auditions" to workshop and work up their storeyboards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
