(Old hat I know) - What are people's views on pre-casting

Are people for or against pre-casting local plays. I know this is an old subject, but don't you think if an audition is advertised as open. That all the parts for that particular production should be open. I know particular directors have certain people in mind, but at the end of the day, someone special might just be walking past. Just a thought.

I am slowly turning to precasting

I have just held auditions for Tales from the Toybox, People contacted me to book a time to come and audition for me in 15 minute intervals. I only had 15 people booked (which is awsome for Acorn)out of those 15, 6 did not bother to show up. The fact that they didn't show was not the problem, the fact that they didn't show the commom courtacy (spelling I know!!) to contact to me to tell me that they had changed their mind. That's just plain rude. Thank you to the 9 people that did turn up.
