Don't take this poll too seriously!
Thu, 6 Sept 2001, 08:52 amLet's keep in mind that we can hardly hope to have a truly objective result to the latest poll, considering that the majority of pollers tend to be from WA.
No matter how good WAAPA is, I can't seriously accept that it would be as high on the poll as it is, if there were a level cross-section of states online.

RE: Don't take this poll too seriously!
Hi Glynn
I didn't go to any of the institutions in the poll, and I didn't put WAAPA as my vote. But I was not at all surprised to see where it appeared on the results. (Remember, we are talking about "reputation", which does not NECESSARILY correlate with quality...although it may be a good indicator.)
My experience in the industry, and access to reliable sources of opinion outside of our great state, lead me to believe that the results AREN'T as inaccurate as you choose to accept. Remember that a sizable number of WAAPA students competed from other states to study there, and a majority of WAAPA graduates end up in the eastern states. So you may be surprised to realise how many high-profile performers in the east have WAAPA to thank, something that I guess being from WA makes us all too aware of. (losing our locally trained talent to the better opportunities elsewhere, where we watch them on TV).
The institution has a well established national reputation that arguably competes with NIDA to the degree suggested by the poll. On the other hand, I have never even heard of at least two of the (excellent, I'm sure) institutions in the poll.
Cheers,

Craig
PS - What do you mean by "a truly objective result" to the latest poll? Can we ever really expect such a thing, whenever public opinion is being canvassed?

Fair enough. One man's opinion - it IS excellent! For a State of our size; it wouldn't be unreasonable to praise higher?
