Wolf Lullaby
Tue, 14 Aug 2001, 11:55 amIn a bleak, remote town a small child is murdered. Suspicion falls on nine year old Lizzie. Her young mother, Angela must make the tortuous choice between ignoring her intuition or presenting her child to the police.
Are killers born or made?
What happens when ordinary people are placed in extraordinary circumstances?
Right, everybody get out your diaries and jot down this info -
August 28th to Sept 2nd. Recabites Hall. Wolf Lullaby.
Directed by myself ( Indira McDonald ) with one of the most amazing ensemble casts I have ever worked with -
AMANDA CREWES - from the illustrious Crewes family with a CV as long as your arm - (unless you have really, really long arms)
CRAIG WILLIAMS - Shakespeare in the Park, Black Swan and just about everything Barking Gecko has ever produced.
JAMIE CANT - Blue Room Board member and director of the highly acclaimed Cabaret at the Dean.
JENNY McCANN - from... well lets face it, who does'nt know Jenny and her impressive body of work?
Not too shabby Huh?
I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when all these talented people said "YES"
This formidable line-up coupled with Hilary Bell's provocative script promises to be a high point in the Perth Theatre calendar.( And I'm not just saying that because I'm directing, but because it's half way through rehearsals and I'm more excited than Big Kev!!!)
Don't miss this show
I repeat
Do not miss this show
Tickets are selling very quickly so you should reserve your seats by calling 9454 4620.
At $15 and $12conc tickets are well below the average Recabite/Blue Room prices because we wanted to make sure you did not miss this show!
Can't wait to see you all there

Are you advertising exclusively to your friends? Because, like a lot of other people using this NATIONAL site, I don't know you or your cast and ...most importantly ...have no idea where your production is playing.
If only this sort of info was included on such notices. But no...!
Still, it's not like we do theatre to attract an audience, is it?

Whooooo there interstate-annoyed-for-no-reason guy or girl!! A simple, "what state are you in cause I'd like to see your facinating sounding play if I could" would have sufficed.
Like it or not this is still a predominanly WA site and we WA type people will be prone to the odd forgetting to mention the show is in WA. If you WERE in WA chances are you would know at least one of the people mentioned in Indi's post.
So on behalf of Indi (and desperately trying to be as lissom and gorgeous as she (should be worth a discounted ticket - wait, did I type that out loud?)) I say this was probably a simple oversight and to try not to get your interstate knickers in such a twist over something relatively simple.
And I will also say I pity you for not having the opportunity to see a show that sounds like it's going to be simply brilliant. Great script, great cast, great director. I'm really looking forward to it and having seen the work of everyone involved before, I recommend it (in advance) to those who have not been so fortunate.

Substantially more than half the people responding to the current poll are from elsewhere.

and um... doesn't the phrase "INTERSTATE-annoyed-for-no-reason guy or girl" (my emaphasis) imply the very state-centric notions that you're complaining about

RE: Wolf Lullaby
So the words "Rechabites Hall" in Indi's post and the phrase "...forgetting to mention the show is in WA..." in mine didn't tip you off, huh? And my profound and unforgivable state-centric veiwpoint (I'll get even with you Grant. You didn't think there was actually going to be a naked bottom in Don's Party, did you. Well there bloody well is now) also didn't cause the penny to drop? Well for those of you who are interstate and are coming over especially for the show (which is the only reason I can think of for someone interstate to so indignantly demand to know exact locations) the Rechabites Hall is on the street of William, in the suburb of Northbridge, in the Town of Vincent, in the metropolitan area of Perth, in the state of Western Australia.
So, just give us a holler as to when you are due in Glynn, there'll be someone to meet your plane.

Thankyou Leah.
No, I have no intention of coming over to WA, but now I can contact my cousins who live in Bunbury (WA) and let them know where it is.
See? It really does pay to advertise venue details no matter where you are!
And no, they haven't heard of the crew either.
Regards, Glynn.

Forgive my fuelling the fire of the interstate debate, but I think it is BLOODY nice for a change to have an arts-related info source where I can see a posting for a show and be 90% sure it's going to be in my own otherwise-Arts-deprived state. Even our own state paper, the West Australian, will mention terrific sounding shows or companies, only to mention in the next sentence that a tour to the West has not been scheduled into the budget for at least the next five years.
Yours smugly,

Well
My goodness
I do apologise Glynn
I guess that just as the Eastern states sometimes forget that WA exsists, we over here sometimes forget that you guys exsist. Sorry! That's just a by- product of living in the most isolated capital city in the world. I will not fall into that trap again as I believe that Grant is doing a fabulous job of closing the gap between east and west. Please do notify your friends and relatives in Bunbury as the cast and crew of this show have very fond contacts in that city as we have all taken part in the Bunbury Drama Festival for many years.( I myself participated in the festival for ten consecutive years both as an actor and director) I believe that the organisers of this particular event could give us a pretty good rap. If you are suggesting that your friends are prepared to travel up to Perth just to see this show then the very least I can do is organise a couple of comp tickets for them. Tell them to ring the number in the original posting and let me know who they are and when they would like to attend. Can't say fairer than that!
I am assuming that your response to my posting was born out of the frustration of wanting to see the show but not knowing where it was. Remember my name - Indira McDonald - Upon graduation from the WAAPA directing course I will be moving to Melbourne and will continue making theatre in the Eastern states. Be frustated no longer you can come to every show I produce if that is your desire.
On the subject of naked bottoms I have little to say other than having just spent two months directing and performing in Holland where theatre is not theatre unless you are baring your soul and baring your arse I can only suggest that - Dean , Jarrod get along to Wolf Lullaby to see what I learned in Amsterdam!
Cheers

PS
Thanks Leah, I hope that everything has been clarified now.

RE: Wolf Lullaby
An aspect of this exchange that struck me is that as far as I could see Glynn did not tell us where HE was!! Maybe the qldwide means Queensland, but a Cyber Senior like me wouldn't be sure about that & would wonder if this is so.Also,I guess qldwide could mean anywhere in rural QL or Brisbane Town.
I guess my point is we can all take things for granted,& it's probably best not to assume every reader of this site will be able to "fill in the gaps".
So, perhaps we should state the "bleedin obvious"
PJF.

Oh God
I think I have just made another error.
I am not suggesting that just cos I'm moving to Melbourne that my shows will be accessable to everyone say for example in Queensland. What I will do is post the details on this web site stating the country, state, city and venue address.
Have I covered my arse?
Dean?
Jarrod?

Dear Peter,
QLDWIDE is a webservice based in South East Queensland, where I live.
But let's not blur the issue. As a possible audience member, along with everyone else who uses this site, I need to know where a production venue is. I have no desire to know where you live or Leah lives or anyone else lives, but I can't attend a show - and my rellies in Bunbury can't attend a show - if we don't know where it is.
My original posting was crotchety, but it is an annoying aspect of this site that there are plenty of great things said about upcoming productions, but rarely is the venue address included.
PS: Thankyou INDI, I will pass the phone number onto my rellies. Much appreciated.

RE: Wolf Lullaby
This is unfair to Grant. Why it was only the last committee meeting of GRADS that Grant told us all that he "once had a female bottom". I think the conversation at the time was about cross-gender casting of Shakespeare plays but I chose to ignore the context and drift off in a thought the pretty much rendered me useless for the rest of the meeting.
Walter PlingeWed, 15 Aug 2001, 05:45 pm
RE: Grant's backside
Well if it involves Shakespeare then THAT'S all right then! Many an assault upon public decency and good taste has been committed under the all-enveloping Get-Out-of-Jail-Free-card of, "Oh, but it's Shakespeare." Maybe THAT'S why directors keep rolling out the classics. Bums! Maybe that's why audiences keep flocking to these shows - in the hope of yet another fleeting glimpse of Grant's girly bottom! I live in dread whilst waiting for the photograph to download every time I open this page. Typical, now I'm useless for the rest of the day. Perhaps I should go now, it's probably time for my medication.

I actually thought that was the best posting you have ever done Jarrod. Firstly you didn't mention my name once (about time you stopped trying to bask in my reflected light you wannabe pervert - a score of only 32 in a "How Bad Are You" email is pathetic), and secondly, it was quite humourous. Obviously affecting ones brain with pain-killers is a worthwhile experience. For those of you who wish to find out for yourselves, there is this lovely Pharmacy in Mount Lawley which is open 24 hours a day and is owned by this really terrific fellow..............(and he is just sooo ethical).

G'day Jim
I was involved a few years ago in a double bill of 'Lone Star' and 'Laundry & Bourbon' at Swy Theatre in Perth (now the Perth Theatre Co). Great shows & wonderful characters, thank you!
If you make it to Australia, drive yourself over to the West coast to Perth - the countryside will remind you of western Texas, without the oil derricks!
Cheers,
