Hi there, In the UK we have a handbook for the entertainment industry published annually called 'Contacts' which contains information/addresses and contact details for Casting Directors and Agencies. Is there a similar book published in Australia? Or a similar resource? Many thanks for your help. Skelce

Not the Same

Sadly, we are not quite as 'with-it' as the English Scene. Someone, please correct me if I am wrong, but I am not aware of any definitive agency reference like they have in the UK.

The UK Scene is of course far more alive and vibrant than Oz, and some may even go as far to say that they is still a very strong negative stigma against Theatre, Casting, etc in Australia. Mind you, recent trends would indicate a ongoing turn around in that department.

The most comprehensive list that I personally am aware of is located at the MEAA Union Website - www.alliance.org.au

More specifically http://www.alliance.org.au/resources/agent_lists_%26_related_information/

Please note the disclaimer at the top of this last link -

Inclusion on these lists does not constitute an endorsement of any Agent or Agency by the Alliance.

Best of luck.

An interesting point.

An interesting point. "Contacts" contains much more than lists of agents etc. It also contains lists of photographers, equipment hire and sale companies TIE companies major pro companies, Animal and props hire companies etc etc. There isn't anything like that in Aus. Most individual actors and every theatre had at least one copy. Republished every year. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

Actually, there is a book.

Actually, there is a book. I'm not sure what it's called but it's for the film industry - theatre not included. The book includes lists of companies, film production companies, lighting, sound and other equipment companies... etc etc. I do know that it exists, but have no idea where to find it, or even if agencies are listed in it. From memory it does, but I could be wrong. (Me and Logos are probably referring to the same thing) Other than that, I'd go with Labrug's suggestion of contacting MEAA. Thank you

Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. As you say Jeff the UK scene is very alive and vibrant but it's so tough I think it may be better to have an emerging scene to cement a name in! Thanks again, I am returning to Oz in a couple of weeks after a long spell away so expect to see another pomme raging her way across your amazing country, with the utmost respect of course! Skelce
