Hi everyone :) I'm Ang :) A couple of questions if I may :) First: Are there any theatre/acting groups or clubs near sunbury? Second: Are there any good extra's management companies out there? I am joined up with one. But am thinking of switching to another one. Thank you everyone. I appreciate it. :)

Can anyone please help?

For the geographically ignorant (me) it would assist if you indicate where Sunbury is located in this rather large continent!

Oh sorry, Melbourne, Vic, Australia :)

Re: Sunbury?? Darkets, Deepest Victoria!

Sunbury Satellite town with historic attractions and wineries Sunbury is located 214 metres above sea-level and 41 km north-west of Melbourne on Jacksons Creek, in an area given over to agriculture, grazing and dairying, although, since the mid-1960s, Sunbury has increasingly become a dormitory satellite for those who work in Melbourne. The area was once occupied by the Wurundjeri people. The first European settler was George Evans who established the Emu Bottom sheep station in 1836. His homestead, built that year, still forms the basis for the present Emu Bottom homestead, making it probably the oldest extant homestead in Victoria. The Sunbury Hotel, named after Sunbury-on-Thames in Middlesex, was built in 1851 on the gold route to Bendigo in an area then known as Koora Kooracup. The townsite was surveyed later that year. The railway line arrived in 1859 and local government was granted in 1866. At that time Sunbury was something of a wine-producing centre with eight vineyards, including Goona Warra and Craiglee which have both been re-established in recent years. The Dilkara Arts Festival is held at the Boilerhouse Arts Centre in February, the Sunbury Fair in March, the Arts Society Exhibition in May, the Sip-n-Sup Wine Festival on the last Sunday in August, the Agricultural Show in August and a craft market on the first Saturday of the month from February to December at the corner of Gap Rd and Elizabeth Drive. Cheers Greg

Weren't you at Sunbury,

Weren't you at Sunbury, Norma ? On the musical front, 1972 is best remembered as the year of "Sunbury". Inspired by Woodstock, the Sunbury Rock Festival was held over 3 days of the Australia Day long weekend . Of all music festivals, this one is the best known in Australia and is regarded as the archetypal Aussie rock festival. It made a profit (which was rare for its time) and for the next few years became an annual event. It was held over 3 days in a residential “satellite” suburb of Melbourne. The musicians performing were some of the biggest names of the day including the much anticipated return of Max Merritt. But it was the performance of Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs that epitomized the Sunbury rock festival. The band was a triumph on stage, resulting in a Top 5 album Aztecs Live! at Sunbury. Fans at the event rallied with the cry of “Suck more piss!” – a catch cry that became indelibly associated with the event. Conditions at the festival were fairly primitive with toilet facilities being hopelessly inadequate. On the flip side beer was available in huge quantities and the crowd was noted for rowdy, alcohol-fuelled character. Guitarist Phil Manning when interviewed by The Age in 2003 gave this blunt assessment of the Sunbury phenomenon: “It was a time when the hippie thing was declining and the drunken afternoons of too much beer, sun and basic rock developed. The music went from being experimental to being just moronic entertainment for yobbos”. The details of Sunbury were as follows: Location: Sunbury Victoria Attendance: 35,000 Ticket: $6.00 Line Up: Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs Max Merritt & the Meteors Spectrum Chain The Wild Cherries SCRA Pirana Tamam Shud Company Caine Friends Carson The La De Das Glenn Cardier There is a dvd available. usually on sale. The stage footlights were Patt45's !

In 1972 I went to Meadows

In Adelaide. A lot quieter, we actually got a lot of the Sunbury acts but Thorpie decided he was having too much fun and pulled out. It almost resulted in Tom Paxton being booed off stage simply because he replaced Thorpe. Mary Hopkin was booed off stage. No comment. The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band were fantastic. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

Methinks Mary Hopkin may

Methinks Mary Hopkin may have been a little too 'wholesome' and 'straight' and possibly the victim of some very bad advice in appearing there at all! I do wish I hadn't lost my Captain Matchbox album - I haven't been able to find another one. Sorry Angvav, your post has got a little off track. I hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm abit confuzzled. Yes,

I'm abit confuzzled. Yes, Sunbury does have a theatre company, that is called "Boilerhouse". They are performing Sweet Charity soon. However, their theatre recently busted up and they have to perform at another theatre near there. But there are also many other theatre companies close to their, namely Kyneton Theatre Company, Mount Players and a few others. Hope that helped :)

"Memory Lane??"

Maybe it's just me.... but is anyone else getting a mental image of Don with a stubbie in one hand, Doobie in the other, long flowing locks, yelling "Suck More Piss!!!" at the top of his lungs?

No???... Then I guess nostalgia isn't what it used to be...*laffs*

Sorry Don, Couldn't resist... Mind you, I guess those earlier days may go a long way to explain your fascination for pretty lights......*cheeky grin*

Chookas mate!

Many thanks to you angvav

Thankyou  for letting us "old farts" remember the days of our misspent youth... (and sharing a few friendly jibes at each others expense..).

I, like Norma, didn't get to the Sunbury festivals either and shall be forever envious of those that did, to be able to see that line up LIVE on stage as they were in their heyday would have been an amazing thing!

Amazing that a single word could evoke so many memories!
