To Beard or Not To Beard - The Hirsute Styles of Queen Vic's Blokes

Hmm, thought I to myself, thought I, could the critic be right, could Robert and I, under the ever watchful eye of our gorgeous director, (she still gives notes after every performance!), have got the whole Victorian era beard shapes so wrong?

But no, there were indeed a plethora of acceptable beard and moustache shapes / designs, monstrosities, all totally acceptable in the late Victorian era.

I've attached a photo of my great, great grandparents, taken circa 1884 and also attached a page taken from Wikipedia, which gives drawings of basic Victorian beard styles, hopefully this will help all future directors, actors and critics alike.

Cheers

I too am indebted to Mr Ross for this edification. I take it then that he would claim to sport a 'Hollywoodian' (very Victorian-sounding) while Mrs Welthorpe would wear a 'Van Dyke'? Glad to see that this thread is dedicated to serious debate and is not just being used to publicise 'Gaslight'. (Ends Saturday I believe). Ssstinger>>>
