Noel O'Neill's "The Tangled Webs We Weave"
Mon, 18 Aug 2008, 11:40 pmYou can’t choose your family… and you can’t trust your friends.
The Tangled Webs We Weave is a strictly limited season of two one-act plays by Noel O’Neill, Holly and Ivy and After All This Time, premiering at The Rechabites’ Hall, August 19 – September 6, 2008.
"Holly and Ivy" won several awards at last year's one-act festivals. This play sees a familiar story of sibling rivalry take an unexpected twist when sisters are brought together after many years apart. They bring up old grudges and learn more than they bargained for.
Holly and Ivy’s main stage debut at The Rechabites’ Hall will take place alongside O’Neill’s latest work, "After All This Time". A chance meeting in a park brings old friends together again. As they reminisce about the past, seemingly innocent events are revealed to be major episodes in their lives.

Pinching old scripts Noel !! Tut Tut
This post removed 27 August 2008 at the request of Noel O'Neill for reason: allegedly defamatory content.

Which one of the TWO plays
Which one of the TWO plays are you referring to, Bluebell? I'm just interested, that's all - though generally if you're going to make accusations of plagiarism, then you really ought to have done your homework on evidence beforehand.

I agree
I don't think you realise what a serious accusation you are making. Have you seen the play(s)? Can you produce a script of the television series you are referring to?
I vouch for Noel's integrity and am prepared to say that the similarities are nothing more than coincidence, unless you can back up those libellous comments with some hard facts.

ACCUSATIONS OF PLAGIARISM
As producer of "The Tangled Webs We Weave" I would like to comment on Noel's behalf. To make such serious accusations without any details is such a foolish act. I suggest you find a solicitor who can defend you against a charge of slander.

The Tangled Webs
Dear Ms Bluebell,
I don't know if you're aware of it but printing such damaging slander over the internet could cost you a lawsuit. Not only did you not mention which play you are speaking about I don't even know if you have been to see the plays. Without this knowledge I don't understand how you can concoct this story about me copying other people's work. I take great offence at this not only as a playwright but personally as I have never intentionally copied any works from anyone and for you to suggest that I did without knowing me or my work says more about you than it does about me. The fact that you can write your response as if it were a joke shows that you don't understand the seriousness of your actions. Please do post the name of the tv series as I would love to know what it is you are accusing me of.

I represent Noel O'Neill and his plays. Your claims are serious accusations. Noel O'Neill is a highly respected playwright who has won many awards and acknowledgements for his works.
Being that this is a public forum, we demand you either back up your accusations and to expect legal action, or for you to publicly retract your accusation immediately, by way of posting your retraction on this thread.

Or else what?
What recourse will you inflict upon this "personage" for such heresy?
Surely, "bluebell" know this is a public forum,- why else post something so imflammatory?
If you could answer the first question, I'd be greatly obliged. Only because I'd like to see what power you believe you have.
If nothing else, daft comments like that from "bluebell" might just be the best publicity you can get...

Defamation
Slander = defamatory public oral statement
Libel = defamatory public written statement
I'm not sure whether 'truth' alone is a defence in WA at present. There may be the added requirement of 'public interest'. Any legal eagles or media law students out there know?
