Can anyone with experience in postgraduate studies in the UK offer me insight into the best, and (thus) most highly sought after universities? I have a BA in Theatre Studies and am interested in doing a Masters in directing . It would be splendid if someone with specific experience could point me in the right direction...

There are a large number of

There are a large number of Universities in the UK that offer a range of Postgraduate studies in theatre. You can also do Masters degrees at a number of the Theatre colleges in London including Mountview, Central, Guildhall and probably several others. You will need to decide whether you want a structured masters in directing with lectures etc or a research Masters. It will also cost you a large amount of money. UK residents pay a lot for postgraduate and you will be charged as an overseas student which is even more. We are talking big bucks, and there are no scholarships over there for overseas students. I doubt that you could get an Australian grant to study overseas unless you are already an established professional or recognised as an emerging artist. Do I sound pessimistic? Yes I probably do. This industry is hard to make your way in. At least 80% of actors are unemployed at any moment in the UK and here I believe the figure is actually over 90%. Because of this most funding organisations are unwilling to put much money into the development of new artists. If you have the money to pay the fees and live in the UK for the required 2 years then go for it. Congratulations and good luck. A bit more research on the net will probably help you find what you are looking for. The search engines are really quite easy to use. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

No experience but...

I once was once looking at the following...

http://www.spa.ex.ac.uk/drama/pg/stagingshakespeare/welcome.shtml

As Logos suggests, it would have been a fortune for something that I felt would have had little impact on employment prospects.

Looked like a fun course regardless.

Cheers

Claire, I posted some links

Claire, I posted some links but they went into the ether. You'll get a lot of real info about courses doing an advanced Google search using the parameters: UK university postgraduate drama directing theatre site:.ac.uk Then there's institutions like Guildhall and RADA, etc. Jim
