AUDITIONS FOR AN EXCITING SHORT FILM
Wed, 8 Aug 2007, 01:37 am
“The Catch” is the major film production for a crew of experienced and passionate film students, all in the final year of their film degree at Curtin University. It is a short film about desensitisation in the modern world, taking into consideration the apathetic attitudes of today’s society towards exchanging real life experiences for technological substitutes. It also explores the idea of desire, with the main character, a 10-year-old boy, experiencing certain realities such as birth and death, but in the end giving in to his desire and imagining what he wants instead of seeing what really exists.
With an eerie and surreal mood reminiscent of a David Lynch film, “The Catch” follows the journey of a young boy along a dry and dusty highway, on a mission to search for what he wants, a place to go fishing and experience what it would be like to find his own real catch.
Along the way the boy encounters a policeman who tries to help him by providing him with modern substitutes to fishing. The boy is not satisfied with these and still longs for the real thing, for his own fish. When the two characters become involved in a fatal encounter with an unknown and suspicious man and woman on the side of the highway, the boy is finally able to experience some real moments.
AUDITIONS - This project is unpaid as we are a student crew, but it will be a great experience for any actor to work with a professional crew and gain extra experience and showreel footage. Further to this the film will be screened at Curtin Razor at the end of the year as well as being shown on local television and potentially in film festivals.
We are searching for:
- A young boy for the lead role, he should look around ten years old or younger. The character is very quiet and mysterious.
- A man to look aged 26-30 to play the role of a well meaning yet slightly clumsy police officer.
- A man to look age 30 and above to play a mysterious and creepy gun man/ gangster. This character has not much dialogue, so the role requires someone who can be very subtle whilst submitting a great amount of presence and mood.
- A woman to look aged 23-30 to play the role of a pregnant woman.
Auditions will be held on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th August at Curtin University, and potentially on another day in the week that follows. The film will be shot in mid-late September.
