Canberra/Sydney Agent?
Sun, 29 July 2007, 04:07 pmI've done a search both on this website, and basic google to try and source any Canberra acting agenciesi with no joy, if this particular topic has been covered before I apologise. My husband has just got a job in Canberra so we are looking at moving there within the next month or so. Does anyone know of any agentsi in Canberra, or is it all self-managed? Better still, does anyone know of any Sydney agenciesi that would take on an actor who is willing to drive the 3 1/2 hour commute or is this a snowball's chance in hell senario?

Canberra agents
Currently there are no professional theatre companies in Canberra although occasionally I see the odd advertisement for paid stage work.
Talent abound in the nation's capital and the locals have a wonderful choice of perfomances to attend.
None of the sctors/musicians are paid for their efforts...they participate because they love the theatre...I have been audience to many many musicals and plays all over Australia and I can honestly say they are as good any( e.g.in Sydney or Melbourne.)

That's not right - the Street Theatre in Canberra stages professional shows with local actors. Maybe contact them for information about agents. There are also TV commercials with local actors and local ad agencies so there must be a reasonable amount of work.

You are right....recently( about a year ago?) the Street Theatre began staging professional shows but these are far and few between.
Certainly I have not found the name of a local talent scout or casting agent in the yellow pages. It is like a secret society out there!
