Enclave Invisibles is the collective work of Travis Heaney and Craig Bannister-Jones
From the producer of 'an elektra', 'A Radical Re-Interpretation: Chekhov's The Seagull' and 'Dr Koppelius' comes the next instalment of postmodern theatrical exploration: RAVE HAMLET.
Billed as 'an experiment in Shakespeare' RAVE HAMLET presents the young Prince as a reckless junkie with little on his mind that another pill can't fix. That is until the bad trips become progressively worse and he begins to see the ghost of his recently deceased father. Set in a world that has moved from social liberation to social collapse, RAVE HAMLET doesn't shy away from any of the cultural or sexual implications of the text.
Laurance Olivier saw Hamlet as "a man who couldn't make up his mind". In this production we see a Hamlet who uses his mind as the only place of escape from the corrupt political realities and sexual perversities of the times. Trapped in a drug induced loop of nightclub encounters with the living and the dead, the abusers and the abused - and a smattering of exotic dancers and drug dealers, Hamlet attempts to right the world before the world rights himÂ…
This is Shakespeare for our times distilled to a sharp one hour and set to the ice cool techno tunes of Enclave Invisibles who play live throughout the performance. But be warned this group has earned a reputation for taking intellectual and physical challenges to the nth degree - previous works have found controversy by questioning social beliefs, current theatrical conventions, and containing scenes of nudity and explicit imagery.
Season runs Wednesday to Saturday at the Yirra Yaakin performance space,
65 Murray Street Perth,
Wednesday to Saturday,
30th May - 9th June.
All performances at 8.15pm
Performance duration 60 minutes.
