Hello There!

My name is Phil Manning and I am the Publicity Officer
for SAWT Inc (South Australian Writers' Theatre Inc).

SAWT is a non-profit professional script development and
promotional body for playwrights for both stage and radio in
South Australia. We were established in 1984 from a small
group of playwrights and we have grown into a respected
association.

SAWT is looking for 'new blood' to mentor with the view of
future committment to professional script development here
in South Australia. We are seeking young and not so young
South Australians who may be considering a future as a
professional writer and playwright.

Ross Barrett, the Chair of SAWT, had his play 'The Director
and the Clown' selected by Rosalbe Clemente to be taken up
under the State Theatre mentorship scheme.
This is the second play of Ross' to undergo this program,
the first one being Tickling the Tail of the Sleeping
Dragon.

SAWT has many success stories with past and present members
and we would like to pass on our experience to new members.

A submission by SAWT this year has acquired funding from the
Australia Council for the professional development of a
script for the stage under the tutelage of Andrea Lemon.
Andrea is a well respected playwright and gifted dramaturg.
She has a wealth of experience in script development. Her
play, "Tranny Boy" is being workshopped at this year's
Australian National Playwrights' Conference.

SAWT employs a cell process used both here and overseas in
helping its members to develop their scripts to the highest
possible standard.

Anyone considering having their work promoted in a
professional manner is welcome to attend our General
Meetings, where one or more scripts are read . . . attend
and observe one of our Workshops held at the Box Factory or
enjoy one of our presentations at the Bakehouse Theatre when
"Sunday with SAWT" commences in June, 2001.

SAWT membership makes allowance for differing interests of
new members. There is a sliding scale of annual fees between
$50.00 to $20.00.

The Bakehouse Theatre aka Peter Green has been extremely
supportive of our endeavours to bring to the public through
our Sunday with SAWT programme, live theatre with feedback
provided by proactive participation of the audience. Season
2001 commences on June 17th around 1.00pm with a play by
Wayne Anthoney, titled " The Clowns' Macbeth." Wayne is also
the Guest Speaker on the day. His talk is titled; "Life in
the Big Shoes." For a nominal fee of $6.00 which includes a
piping hot bowl of soup accompanied by a crusty, fresh bread
roll, Sunday with SAWT on June 17th is shaping up to be an
experience worth having. Bar facilities will be available.

Synopsis :

Four clowns unexpectedly find that the headmaster of the
school they are visiting expects them to perform Macbeth
rather than the usual cabaret. They make the best of it,
with hilarious results.

Wayne's Comments :

Alan Holy will play Puck, Pete Thorpe has agreed with
delight to play the role of Fleabag, which he created in the
original production and Allen Lyne and Sandy will play Sir
John Feelgood and Pumpkin respectively.

See you there!

through your readers, social contacts, family, friends,
noticeboards and any interested parties who may enjoy the
structure we have put in place for the future development of
script writing and its presentation to the public in South
Australia.

others to 'hand up' their manuscripts for mentorship,
reading and workshopping of their work..

for SAWT to be given the opportunity of mentoring and
assisting current and future playwrights.
