Since when...
Fri, 6 Apr 2001, 07:03 pm...did this site turn into 'letsbollockMeadows.com'???
I'm not even getting into the MA debacle, but now someone implying that just because he's the golden boy of the Perth amateur dramatics scene, he is i) getting parts because of who he knows and ii) he's lazy (so, David learns lines by /osmosis/ rather than 'sweating for one hour over a monologue'??).
Now, I think I have more right than anyone to be bollocking David, seeing as how he's left me in the lurch with a bloody good role and no one to deliver it to. He's heard my personal opinion (loudly) over the telephone (at dawn on a Sunday) and my subsequent apology (by a gutless email). However, this does not prompt me to change my opinion about his a) talent or b) worth as a person.
David got into Oleanna because he his ridiculously talented. He dropped out of drama school and got into Bell Shakespeare anyway. That takes talent, and from what I've heard, John Bell doesn't take kindly to slack-arses. Rather than starting threads about his dubious past (which I neither know nor care about) and about how chummy he is with the ITA (he'd want to be since he's directing half of their shows for the forseeable future) shut the @!#$ up and appreciate that he /does/ participate in community theatre, and doesn't have chips the size of grid-iron tackle on each shoulder about amateur shows the way most pros in Perth do. @!#$, he's leaving for London soon if all goes to plan, so then all you bitter sourpusses will be good and happy, and the Perth amateur theatre scene can return to being good and ordinary.
