Is there anyone out there in Theatreland/ cyberspace who remembers the" Coffee Pot"This wonderful coffee lounge had a bohemium atmosphere and was the place to gather after seeing ,or being involved in a theatrical production;& where "theatre Junkies met to "chew the fat",debate, gossip, agree, disagree,& generally try to unravell the mysteries of the "addiction"The sinking of Perth Railway Station brought about the Pots demise but I can still recall the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and almost taste the ledgendary home made spring rolls & chutney.
It occured to me that this site is "The Pots" electronic replacement, with similar banter, high opinion, myth making & myth de bunking for which the lounge was famous.I enjoy following the debates, but, yes,I do miss the smell of the coffee,& of course the PEOPLE.

RE: The Electronic Coffee Pot.

Oh yes, Peter! Except the Coffee Pot had relocated to Rokeby Road, Subiaco, when we discovered it - sometime around 1980. Glenn Hayden, if you're out there, come on down! We spent many a happy evening post-rehearsal, playing records, drinking coffees and hot chocolates and discussing things theatrical. I agree, Peter, this site continues with the lively discussions, but nothing beats real life! If someone wants to open a new Coffee Pot, I will contribute cakes and bickies - home made, of course! We could call it the Theatre Lounge or something...

Hi Peter .. are we talking "The Coffee Pot" (Wellington St) circa around late 50s/early 60s here? or is that another one I'm remembering??

Fergawdsake Jenni! Surely you're not old enough to remember anything Peter Fry remembers?

RE: The Electronic Coffee Pot.

In some circles, Deano, Peter Fry is also known as Peter Pan. And, sadly, I am older than I ever intended to be. Long live the Coffee Pot!

RE: The Electronic Coffee Pot.

I think Irma La Douce, of the Guild Theatre fame, introduced me to the legandry raisin toast and froffy coffee.

I seem to remember something about the 'Guilt Dragon' or was that next door? "Ah! --- Yes! - I remember it well"

Those were the days when we would wait for the 'West' and 'Sunday times' for the crit's come out of the show we just done. But that's all gone now, the only thing you can do now is see if somethings mentioned in the local rag?

I think it would be great, if we had a 'greeseee spoon' agin ( I think that might have been the jiont opposite the Maj?), that us theatre props could call make our own and be a central meeting place - any takers or offers? - I would even bring my own bread and beans.

RE: The Electronic Coffee Pot.

Yes, you old timers, after the Wellington ST Coffee Pot closed it reopened in Subi . I had mentioned that in my original posting but ran out of room & deleted it.I felt the Subi place never had quite the same atmosphere (you know ,like the first love affair;now, there's memory for you!)Barbara, you may be thinking of Subi & Jenni,as Dean suggests you are certainly TOO YOUNG to remember the original! Some one asked whether it was the people ,or the smell of the people I remembered. The answer is BOTH!!

RE: The Electronic Coffee Pot.

Hi Peter ..
no, must be Wellington St; pretty sure I never went to the one in Subi - I was out of the "coffee lounge" scene by then.
And to Joe McCabe: I remember the Gilt Dragon, also Wellington St, may have been net door or near by at least - jiving upstairs with a guy named "Dutchie"!!
Wow! THAT's a long time ago!!
