Cheap tickets
Fri, 23 Mar 2001, 10:08 amHow lucky we are here in Perth in the theatre world. We have a plethora of companies to watch and to join with, we have an exciting output of local talent who regularly leave us speechless and sending out review upon glowing review. We have a community of theatre practitioners who foster a supportive atmosphere allowing us to risk ourselves night after night. And of course we have this website which brings us all closer together.
And of course none of us are going to be taken away by the government and killed for our theatre.
The writers, directors and actors of Teatro Abierto, from which the next Blue Room shows are drawn (I have no mouth but I must scream) were under constant threat of 'disappearing' due to the harsh military regime in Argentina at the time. Their theatres were repeatedly destroyed throughout their four seasons, at which time democracy was returned.
For $10 ITA website readers can come and see these three plays from next Thursday onwards for two weeks at the Blue Room. They stand alone as good theatre but when you view them in the context of the social and physical pressure they were created under they become quite stunning.
Excuse my excursion into gossip with this post, I'm quite passionate about these plays. Be glad I'm only talking in print, my passion runs over when I'm in person

Thanks for the great offer, Dave. I think i read a play by one of these playwrights several years back. Very powerful stuff. Particularly, as you say, given the context in which they were written and performed!
Speaking of cheap ticket offers on this site, how are others getting on? I'm aware of one company that sold 48 tickets over two performances directly through an offer made here.
