to attend as audience or to participate in?

regardless, you'd probably be right on both counts.

however, one way to counter this would be if people made better use of this site! i know there are plenty of groups out there that offer opportunities for younger practitioners, but it's really hard to find out about everything that is happening.

Should there be a special "youth section" on this site to highlight these opportunities?

This plug isn't too far off topic.... if you're looking for drama classes etc. in Perth try a search at Recreation Network:

http://recnet.it.net.au/

It's the most comprehensive database of recreation and lesiure information in the state.

RE: young ppl in theatre

The Old Mill Theatre is keen to offer an opportunity for young members and local young people to gain experience in all aspects of theatre. We will be entering a short play in the youth section of the State Drama Festival in September 2001. Any interested young people between the ages of 13 and 17 are invited to call Susan Lynch on 9310 1448 for more information.

Hope this is a start for all prospective young players.

Enhanced Learning Thru Amateur Theatre

Looking for an excuse to avoid some homework?

Parents and teachers giving you a hard time about all the time you're spending rehearsing that latest play instead of studying?

Check out this fascinating paper by Christina Chaib PhD. on "Enhanced Learning Through Amateur Theatre".

RE: young ppl in theatre

Roleystone Theatre Players provide a Youth Workshop earlier in the year to help hone the talents of kids with little experience, culminating in a few short plays and musical items. We also have a Production later on in the year, for the more experienced kids. If I can find a decent script, I hope to be directing Roleystone's offering for the ITA Youth Dramafest. Feel free to contact me on 9399 5276, or by e-mail at fnord@writeme.com

I hope this helps.

RE: young ppl in theatre

Hi!
I agree with what you say about there not being enough theatre for young people between the ages of 15-17. I myself am 15 years old and I find it very hard to find any information to do with theatre auditions for younger people. An idea brought up by Grant Malcolm to have a youth section on this site is a good one! It would make everything a lot easier for people like me!
Cheers,
Louisa
