We would just like to rectify a little false advertising here...

The recent newsletter from Don Russell Performing Arts Centre states that Husky Productions "The Boyfriend" is brought to you by "the same people who brought you Chicago".

THIS IS NOT TRUE. In no way, shape or form is Husky Productions associated with Act One Scene One (the people that actually brought you Chicago). This advertisment was printed without our prior knowledge or permission.

Neil Husk was a technical director and Natalee Husk musical director for Chicago's original season. Those who saw Chicago will know that these were the worst two aspects of the entire show, due to the unreliability and unprofessionalism of those now related to Husky Productions.

This may appear slightly harsh, but it is from personal experience that we wish not to have ourselves or our company associated with Husky Productions or their upcoming "The Boyfriend".

Act One Scene One's current project, the second season of "Chicago", will be showing at the Bridge Theatre on March 23, 24 & 25. Tickets can be booked through Ticketmaster7 by calling 13 61 00. It is a truly fabulous show and we urge you not to miss out.

Regards,
Grant Capriotti and Julia Jenkins

RE: Important Information...

Hi Grant & Julia

"unreliability and unprofessionalism"

In some states of Australia, even the veracity of such statements, if they could be proven, might not protect you from litigation for libel.

Personal opinions are welcome here. But my understanding (correct me someone, please) is that bold statements like this, that might be construed as besmirching someone's character, could lead to legal trouble.

I may be equally misguided in my belief that prefacing a statement like this with words like "In my honest opinion..." (often seen abbreviated IMHO) offers some minimal protection against litigation.

Oh and IANAL*

:-)

Cheers
Grant

RE: Important Information...

Actually Grant, in my honest opinion, truth is an absolute defence to libel (at least at common law). However, Grant and Julia, I wouldn't like to try to prove it. C U @ the Bridge!

RE: Important Information...

"without prejudice" or is it?

"unreliability and unprofessionalism" by who's standards?

I would like to here from the t'other side of the fence.

Could it not be just a clash - which takes place during most productions with those who have strong artistic bent and won't bend to what they believe is unrealistic demands? What ever!!!

Maybe both parties need to 'common ground' thier ego's, as this industry is so big - if you flush the 'loo' here, you empty someone elses bath in Melbourne.

Lets get on with 'IT' and start scene two or Act Two Scene one?

The most cost effective and re-useable resources are human ones, so can we afford to knife each other?, beleive it or not you might need each other one day.

So IT might have been a bad time, add IT to your experiance and out do IT next time?

Isn't "That what we are about"

Just a 'tanners' worth.

RE: Important Information...

Thanks Grant for jumping in on this one. A similar situation arose last year when the 'professionalism' of a local film-maker was dragged through this site. This information network should not become a fariground for private vendettas.

I don't know the people involved in this one or the productions spoken of but it seems to me that if Chicago was so bad their claim to be the production company isn't going to work as a marketing ploy is it? If it was a reasonalby good production perhaps some credit would have to go to the Musical Driector and the production team...

It is a tough business at the best of times let's not make it any more difficult for our fellow practicioners...

RE: Important Information...

Okay okay, it was not our intent to start a huge controversy over this. Of course all comments made regarding "professionalism" and work standards are solely our opinion, based on our own experience of a situation that this is not the place to explain.

Nevertheless, it remains our position that "the people who brought you Chicago" conveys certain false implications that we would like ourselves and our company protected from.

So, in the spirit of keeping things civil, I suggest that should anyone have anything further to say on the matter, feel free to e-mail us privately.

RE: Important Information...

Hey Julia!

Just a thought.
If the line was in the DRPAC Newsletter, was the line put in by Husky Productions, or was it put in by DRPAC?!

Paul

PS All the best for Chicago Mark II
Do we have to book by Ticketmaster7
Or can we buy tickets at the door?

Dear Leah,

Thanks for repeating my earnest suggestion: "This information network should not become a fariground for private vendettas."

It was most timely...

RE: Important Information...

My copy of the DRPAC newsletter arrived today. (I think they are posted alphabetically and I am a lowly "S").

Thought people might be interested to know that the "offending" statement has been neatly liquid-papered out. (Quite nicely, to the point where it was invisible on a first reading even though I was "looking" for it.)

Someone has been busy.

RE: Important Information...

Mmhmm, many thanks to Anita Palmer and her people for that.

Also Paul, we did make sure to get our facts right before we flew off the handle. It was approved by Husky Productions before it was printed. And for those at the beginning of the alphabet, the ad will be rectified in next months newsletter.

Thanks for the feedback,
Julia

P.S. And Paul, at this point in time I'm not entirely sure, but we are trying to organise it so that tickets can be bought at the door.

RE: Important Information...

Yeah .. it was gone in mine too - addressed to "Community Radio Info" at Information Radio, don't know whether that means they were deleting by the "Cs" or they did the media/radio stations last!
Either way, it just means I would never have known about the whole fuss if it hadn't been brought to the attention of this board!
Make of this what you will .....
