How big is BIG?
Tue, 23 Jan 2001, 10:44 pmI had something of a fright when i visited the federal government's Australia's Cultural Network website
and tried a search for
independent theatre association
Give it a try and see for yourself.
Out of 730,258 web pages recorded in ACN's database this website accounts for 24,727 pages. In terms of sheer volume, across all cultural and art forms, this website comprises 3.4% of all the australian cultural content recorded.
Kind of scary, eh?
About every 1 in 30 cultural pages listed on this huge federally funded network points back to this website.
I wonder what impression we've been giving?
It did make me wonder though. If the contribution is only partly as significant as these figures might indicate, why do the following local companies fail to participate or even just provide links to this site?
Black Swan Theatre Company
Perth Theatre Company
Deckchair Theatre Company
Artrage
Arts Central (Theatre Arts WA)
Barking Gecko
Blue Room Theatre
Stages
Yirra Yaakin
WAAPA
Why does are state ministry for culture and the arts choose to direct traffic to these sites
scoop magazine *0.000008%
wesfarmers arts diary *0.000001%
whats on *0.000002%
BOCS *0.000014%
(* approximate percentage of content at ACN)
