WA Tickets
Tue, 23 Jan 2001, 05:07 pmNot sure which section this should go under but I just wanted to point out that should the present WA Govt be re elected,the present plan is to sell BOCS.
The hot favourite is Ticketmaster7 and it will mean the following.
All casual ticket sellers will lose their jobs
Any permanent staff will be redeployed or take their chances with ticketmaster.
All WA shows will be sold via the phone and from a call centre in NSW. It is simply a recorded voice and you press buttons to what show you want.
No personal contact, no choosing where you want to sit and no one to talk to about the shows.
The plan is on hold until the election is over.
Personally I would hate to see this happen. The people at BOCS at the Concert Hall and His Maj etc are great and it is a pleasure to book seats there. I would never book a theatre ticket by simply pushing buttons on a phone.

While i don't necessarily entirely share your glowing opinion of BOCS' service, i'm disturbed to hear that it could be replaced by TicketMaster.
Here's a quote from an arts administration mailing list i'm on:
"I must remind you that we have VAC [Victorian Arts Centre] to thank for introducing TM [TicketMaster] to Australia in the first place, BASS [???] as part of VAC was about the only licensee of TM software worldwide until TM bought out VAC (after the JV[???]) and rebadged it as Ticketmaster.
A name change, but many say they are still limited by the same archaic software, onerous exclusive contracts and questionable service levels (to presenter and patron) owned by the same company questioned by US Congress and the Australian Trade Practices Commission for monopolistic practises and restraint of trade."
The last paragraph is particularly disturbing. Can anyone establish the veracity of some of these claims?

Has anyone had more luck than I have with looking up BOCS (?soon to be the 'late' BOCS??)
I got the home page but ever after the "this page cannot be displayed at this time" message appeared. I reloaded and refreshed but it made no difference.
